I suspect Q6600 OC'ing has been rare to date because they have been priced so close the the QX6700 that no one in their right mind would buy one.

With the price coming down shortly, we should see some more quad-core overclocking around here.

Here's what I've found for recent quad-core overclocking on 680i boards which is what I'm leaning towards. Although, with these less than stellar results, I'm inclined to rethink that.

It would be great to hear from others.

What is the maximum temp for a Q6600 ? I see they are quite hot

How can I benefit from a quad compared to a dual core at this point ?

ES is engineering sample (given out by Intel to testers, reviewers, etc.). B2/B3 are the silicon stepping or rev. ES may be hand-picked or binned to perform better but I don't think anyone can verify that.

A question about the Q6600... Can you lower the multi on this chip (i.e. to x7 or x8?)

exactly the question i would like answered

    on a BadAxe2
    Rig:
    Q6600
    Intel BadAxe2
    Tuniq 120 Tower
    G.Skill HZ 4x1GB
BFG 7900 GS OC (558/675) now MSI HD 7770
    WD Raptor 150GB (Primary)
    2 x Seagate 320Gb 7200.10 (Storage; No RAID)
    Corsair 620Watt
    Samsung SH-W183 SATA drive
    AuzenTech X-Meridian
    Antec A900 Case

I have a Tuniq 120 Tower in my new pc. The size, in relation to others on the market, is directly proportional to the size of my penis. Therefore it is large.

    and thick.

From what I've read here, and on the EVGA forums, overclocking a quad core (especially on a 680i) can be a real challenge and you may need all the flexibility at your disposal that you can get. For example, 425x8 might be easier than 377x9... it really depends on your CPU and board.

OC problems with Kents are either heat or chipset/FSB related. Lowering the multi won't help.

You've been misinformed...all of the C2D's are unlocked downward. Only the "X" series are unlocked both ways...

Some people seem to have luck with lower multi's and higher FSB while others get higher clocks with higher multi's and lower FSB's.

To my knowledge there hasn't been anything in the Intel roadmap regarding Xeon price cuts. This, of course, doesn't mean there *arent* going to be price reductions on Xeons. It seems a like it would be a little silly not to cut Xeon prices as there's no marketing benefit, that I can see, to keeping Conroe and Kentsfield Xeons at an unbalanced price point.
Look at the tyranny of party--at what is called party allegiance, party loyalty--a snare invented by designing men for selfish purposes--and which turns voters into chattles, slaves, rabbits, and all the while their masters, and they themselves are shouting rubbish about liberty, independence, freedom of opinion, freedom of speech, honestly unconscious of the fantastic contradiction; and forgetting or ignoring that their fathers and the churches shouted the same blasphemies a generation earlier when they were closing their doors against the hunted slave, beating his handful of humane defenders with Bible texts and billies, and pocketing the insults and licking the shoes of his Southern master.

According to this, the same price cuts are to affect Xeon quad core... (but it is the Inq!)
