well, theres a trick to getting NFS:Carbon to work in wide screen.
all other methods I tried, do little else then stretch the image to fit a widescreen resolution, which just sucks...
heres how you get a unstretched widescreen resolution for this game.
Step 1.
you need a No-CD/DVD hack. it's not optional.
to bypass the games resolution check, you need to kill the CD check...
same as if you were playing Need For Speed Underground 2.
Step 2.
Rename the Games EXE (not the shortcut, the actual EXE) to "Speed2.exe"
Step 3.
download the Universal Widescreen Patcher.

Step 4.
Using UniWSP, tell the patcher to look for the need for speed underground 2 game. this is why you had to rename the EXE, so it UniWSP will find this.
when it does, then you have the option of patching the game, to a specific resolution, through the UniWSP.
patch your EXE.
Step 5.
in the game, your new custom set resolution will only work, when you select 640 x 480 resolution within the game.
thats it.
with this method, the game will work flawlessly, and will not be a streched image, as you can see from my own game shots.

Settings.
Everything Maxed Out and Enabled.
Crossfire X1950's used. 3.6 ghz Cornoe and 2 gigs Mushkin ram.
all driver settings maxed, except AA, which is set to "allow program to chose" and adaptive AA is disabled by default (I cant tell in any game what that does so I never use it)
now if only I could find the car dealer... so I can try some of the other cars haha...
