    * Consumer memory support 1024 MB

A lot of users still have 1024MB (or less!) of system memory! Unbelievable that you'd get a video card with an amount of RAM equal to or greater than your system's.

While it does have some air of legitimacy as they mention their inability to show the cards since they are simply performing DX10 driver acceptance testing, it seems king of a convenient excuse. PhotoShop or even paint would have worked just fine to cover up the tracking numbers. And, did they even test a 8800GTX? The 05 and 06 numbers are way off. With that exact setup they have, 06 is more like 7750 and 05 is about 12300 with HQ settings, no OC, 1600x1200, 4xAA, 16xAF.

And, seems rather biased for a review article. They slam NVIDIA a little too hard throughout.

Feels like a nice New Years joke to me.

Did you even read the article?

The system described above is running a clean install of Windows XP Professional 32-bit for every graphics card test. We tested each card, then exchanged and cleaned up the system to make sure the results are unbiased from previous installations. The R600 driver used is a modified version of a 32-bit Vista pre-build version; therefore, the results on the R600 side are not optimized.
It also explains the R600's less than stellar numbers. We will have to wait until the real McCoy shows up to get the real numbers.

If Level505's comments seem a little too pro-ATI, don't be too surprised. When asked if the site was affiliated in any way to ATI or AMD, the owner replied to DailyTech with the statement that "two staff members of ours are directly affiliated with AMD's business [development] division."
Hey guys.. enough said. Chill okey?

As early as it is, it's no wonder the first test and numbers we see is biased.

I'll be checking the site on the 8'th for the possible Crossfire results, but as everyone here should, I understand to take everything with a grain of salt.

Please understand, and there is no mistaking this, that this is what you call building up hype in advance of a products release. Building hype and hurting sales of 8800 series graphics. I'm sorry for beeing so literate about this as I know most of the guys here understand this very well, but I've seen several posts here that worries me..

Just wait and see guys.. don't be too outspoken too soon

Even if these numbers are less-than-explosive, they still seem to beat out the G80 in most cases... I think I will be going for the GDDR4 revision myself, unless the refresh of G80 happens to do much better.

True, but those were different times, the situation is not the same, since early DX9 was just surprise besides the latest DX8 at that moment, now whit all the specifications DX10.1 could be something huge (it's not just Graphics related, same goes for CPU, Multi Core that is), favoring ATi now since is part of AMD, might raise some questions whit Intel, so it's not just nVidia which has bigger gains because of M$ (Windows) and has to play like a puppet and adapt to any situation.

I'm sure this is not a BS.

It looks like R600 is powerful enough, just to point out that is a mere sample, so do not take it too serious.

The article mentions release is January 22nd? Is this in stores or just a paper launch? Is this date even true period?

I am DYING to see pics. I want to see the size of this thing and how many power connectors it is going to need. I heard they were shortening the PCB and cutting back on the power requirements so I want to see where that leads to.

Januari will be an interesting month. I also cant wait for pictures and more benchmarks.
I'm also a bit sceptic about this article but i posted it anyway to see what you guys think of it.
It seems Dailytech talked with the site owner and it could be true.
    I think future will tell

Also if u hav a g80, do u hav a fully compatible drivers for this monster? cuz if u do send me a link as i asure u that g80 is also kind-of currently in the present stage as R600 is in, much even to think of vista and dx10 benches. For the reputation ATI/AMD has i think u'll be in a 6-10 month wait for a mature drivers!!! so go ahead get ur R600 and watch current and refresh g80 kill that sun of a gun!!! G80 rocks!!!
Now hold on there for a second, there's a very good chance the R600 will be faster. You only have to look as far as last generation to see the parallels of history to this current generation. ATI has had more than enough time to examine the G80's performance characteristics and tweak the R600 to 1-up it on that front. To say it won't is foolish and naive. This is just like when the X1800XT released, it 1-up'd the 7800GTX. The better question is, is it too little too late?

The 8800GTX continues to fall in price (it's already down $100). NVIDIA has had much more time to improve drivers. The featureset of the GeForce 8 series is awesome, you'd be hard pressed to need anything more (at this time). To top it off, the refresh is no-doubt underway, and by the time R600 comes out, it will be close to launch as well (this gen's 7800GTX 512MB). That doesn't help the current 8800GTX any, but for those considering waiting for the R600 for non-fanboyish reasons should realize NVIDIA will probably do a lot to steal its thunder.

So the biggest question is how much better will the R600 be? If history repeats itself like I've been saying, 1-upping the 8800GTX won't be enough. ATI's moves in the market have become predictable, being as they are still second banana (maybe not in performance, but in innovation and product cycle). That's a bad thing, NVIDIA has made countering those moves an artform. ATI's only hope is to improve so much on the 8800GTX that it makes playing some modes the 8800GTX can't possible. But if they just 1-up as is the most likely scenario, I see no good reason for people to put off purchasing the excellently priced 8800GTX, as it will delivery the vast majority of the performance NOW and without destroying your budget.

From what i understood so far level505 will bring more information when they can remove all ID's so they can remain unknown. They're talking about lots of ID's to remove.

    level505 updated info
Update - Authenticity Of This Article

This article is authentic. Our R600 sample is an RTM sample used in the MS CERT process for driver validation (especially for Vista). We are not publishing pictures of the card itself right now, as the card contains major ID tags that we can not remove yet for source protection. We will add pictures of the card itself once we can remove these tags.

Update - Oblivion Benchmark is TSSAA/AAA quality

Due to upcoming questions regarding the frame rates on our Oblivion test: We ran the Oblivion Benchmark with activated TSSAA (Transparency Super Sampling Anti-Aliasing) on nVidia and AAA (Adaptive Anti-Aliasing) on the ATI cards because Oblivion profits substantially from these advanced AA modes.

Anyway the fact remains that they're not trying very hard to prove anything. All I see are a lot of words but no evidence. Would a screenshot or two be so incriminating?

It's all speculation and nobody knows what the card really will be (only some lucky bast@rds who are under NDA)
I searched the net a few days back and found a screenshot of 3dmark with r600 with photoshopped numbers to hide some information. but that one whas a real big fake
World is going mad it seems, http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=36642
The InQ noobs seem to be sure about it because they dont mension anything about fake or unreliable.

it's just a mess. all the speculation is doing exactly what ATi wants. They're getting exposure and they're keeping nVidia's market share squelched as much as possible.

I wish it would just be released already...

I think the price is keeping the G80's market share 'squelched' without ATi's help, also the total lack of Vista drivers is making some people a little edgy. I just hope it isn't another 8500 situation where ATI's card needed driver refinement before it showed its true colours and people bought Geforce 3's instead for that reason, thus ending up with a card without DX8.1 support.
