    Just Picked Up A New X2 3800+

I was reading a thread ocforums and this guy got an X2 3800 at Fry's Electronics for $379.00. So this morning I went down to the Fry's near me and they had 4 of them. NICE! So I about to put it in my comp now. My stepping is:

    CDBHE 0526UPBW

I hope it works out to be as good as his! Also does anyone know if the 510-2Fixed bios supports the X2?

Yeah I have the bios that Tony fixed without the extra voltage option. Is that the one you are talking about? So you are saying that the 510-2Fixed wont work?

I cant wait to get this thing in! Robert over at ocforums is getting some really good results with his but his stepping is different he has

    ADA3800DAA5BV
    CDBHE 0527TPAW

Now I know the AW's are usually better than BW's so we will see!

Fry's eh. I'm going there today to pick up fan grills. I will go check out their X2s then. I didn't know they sold them for $379.99 (pretty decent compared to say Monarch). Maybe I'll even test it out and return it (rofl)

Yeah grabbed 2 today on my way in... (had to grab in between board as this DFI NF4 Ultra D started acting up once again)...
Same stepping as above mentioned. One of them I opened up, the other I didn't bother yet. Default v-core seems to be notch higher 1.35v instead of 1.3v I saw on 4200+. Well time to see if it flys or flops. (BTW, upon starting up dual prime95, I noticed the fluctuation from idle to insta load temp being MUCH lower on this chip... like 3-4c only... seems to me HS is well applied on this one at least as well as something might have improved)
    PS) The heatsink is puny A64 standard fare.... not the cool copper bottom heatpipe one in 4200+ -_-;

OK right now I have 2 sp2004's running using 100% of cpu. I am at 1.26v (stock) at 2.4ghz so I am gonna let this run for awhile and see how it does. Already its better than my SD!

Very cool to see the better temps (less flucuation) and the decent initial overclock at stock volts.

    That is all.

    Peace and love.

WTF I cant get my ram volts to 3.4v again the option is gone! I was using 704-2fixed and I thought it was the bios but I just flashed back to 510-2fixed and its still not there. Does anyone know why or whats going on?

Oh nevermind I fixed it! It was just being a pain in the A**.

That's pretty nice for a much cheaper dual core. I paid £380 for my 4400+ (umm, $673 at current rates) and you are sitting at only 100mhz less than me. Probably get further. I haven't pushed my chip though as I like the much lower temps of 2.6ghz stable than any higher where it pushes out mass heat.

Jin - Do what I did if you're gonna buy a mobo from Fry's - get the extended warranty from them. It'll cost something like $20-40, but what you get is much more vaulable than that. The plan allows you to return the mobo during the warranted period (I got the 2 year plan) for any reason at all and they'll issue you a new one on the spot. No more hassling with RMA's and no downtime

Does it have a standard AMD64 HSF and not an FX style heatpipe stock cooler? This must coincide with the 89W thermal output as opposed to the 110W thermal output as stated on the AMD tech spec sheet.

Sorry smids, I gotta do this to yah again Those measurements aren't of thermal output, but rather they're more a rating of power consumption. (Look here & start w/the last couple posts on that page).

The HS that came with this 3800 is the exact one that came with my Venice and San Diego. As you could tell its still in the box.

As for hitting 2.8ghz I dont see the problem cuz I am sitting at 1.42v at 2.6ghz on air. My temps are high right now which I want for a good burn. But once I pop the IHS off I am sure (just like all my other chips) the temps will drop a good amount.
