softmodding can cause early deaths as it did for many x800pro to xt mod, same with 6800nu to GT

EDIT: this is a split off from another thread where this discussion started.

check other forums, theres tons of stories of x800pro to xt mod killing their card after a little use. also many 6800s die while trying the mod. ATI really needs low K or they will have a hot, slow card. I dont even expect the clocks to be higher, just cheaper to produce them and greater supply. those with the "old" .13u cards need not bother upgrading till nv50 r500/520(whatever ati calls it)

noononono im not going to look for something that i doubt exists because you told me theres lots of it
if there are so many people with dead cards and threads about it should be easy for you to remember at least two or 3 of those theads and post a link to it. i could as well say there are flying blue pigs and if you dont believe me i tell you to travel to tibeth to look for them

lalpooo, i only heard this once from ati. they claimed that modded cards would probably die within weeks im 100% sure they said that to stop people from modding their cards.

its the same intel and amd said, "overclocking will kill your cpu in a matter of months if not weeks"

    *cough*

This is just one of the many posts. Do you honestly think ati would not sell it as a xt if they could because theres alot of demand for the xt? those vivo pros are xt that failed to make the cut

Its still a risk and you know this. It may or may not die, not everyons card dies but I dont have $400 to gamble. When I buy my next card, overclocking is as far as ill go. Ill only mod a card costing less than $100 like this 9500np

I don't even consider it a risk. When the 9500np mod was new I'm sure there were people whining and moaning too. How many of their cards died?
So far you've only shown one single card dying, with no links. When you compare that to the number of cards that mod fine, and are run overclocked 24/7 its not really a risk at all.
If all you want to play with is 9800s and 9700s and 9500nps and ti4200s, go ahead, but don't spread information that will stop others from getting new cards.

I really haven't heard about x800's dieing, I have had 2 of them, both modded, neither have died yet, I bought them when x800 came out. If i heard more cards dieing then id believe it, but I haven't seen many cases.

I am not trying to stop others from modding but just make them aware of the risks. I will go look for more posts of people killing their cards from the xt mod.

    link?

and your making people aware of a risk that does not exist... you could as well make them aware of the risk of slipping in the bathroom after taking a shower, wich is more likely to happen that an x800 dieing from softmodding it.

there are 100 people if not more on this forum who modded their x800 cards and reported back in the poll thread. none of the cards died...

and YES, ati said the same thing back about the 9500s, they said they would die after some time if we mod them. thousands and thousands have been modded, heard of any card that died from a softmod?

and this is off topic, im going to split this off to another thread later, so keep talking off topic but know it will be moved later.

Dunno abut the X800's but my 1st 9500 @440mhz ran for over a year softmodded, and still does when the computer is on.

I've had my x800 modded for ages now, it runs at XT speeds and all.
It has never crashed once at the XT cloxk speeds with 16 pipes, and it has been running perfectly for 3 months now

Watch out guys, your cards are all going to die.

    ALL OF THEM.

Geforce, you've got to stop making baseless claims without any backup. Saying there are many posts to support your claim and then telling us to go look for them is NOT the way to make your point.

So, you've seen 10 threads of people with dead cards.

    Ten out of how many?

Seriously, this is not an epidemic, and it's very likely that these x800 deaths are not caused by the softmod but by some other factor.

    thx

but tbh, i doubt you will find any. i heard of some people who modded their cards and they died later, but that was the hard mod wich involved cutting traces and they also modded their cards... so yeah, im pretty sure that not one single card has died from beeing softmodded... EVER! show me the proof! just one single card that died from beeing softmodded.
