Let me start by saying my e6400 did 3.8ghz SPi 32m with no volt mods on air on my Rev 1.0 DS3. I "upgraded" to this P5B-plus after hearing good things about its ability to get the most out of D9 mems for the price. I could only run a maximum of like 925mhz 5-5-5-14 on my Team Group mems on the DS3 and I was hoping for the best with this new mobo.
First thing I did was run a 2:3 divider, put the volts at 2.3v, and started seeing how high the Team Group would go at 4-4-4-6. It ended up doing 1066 without doing any in-depth tweaking. I think it had more to give, but I was antsy and wanted to see how my new Ballistix 8500 would do. I did a repeat (2:3) and it went to 1200 4-4-4-12. At this point I was thinking "sweet, this board and new memory rocks" but I hadn't tried high FSB yet... so I guess I spoke too soon.
Next I put the mems back to 1:1 so I could try and max out the FSB with a 6x multi on the CPU. I have tried PCI-E locked at 100 and 120, all varying amounts of ICH, NB, and mem voltage, enabling and disabling various CPU features (EIST, C1E, etc) and can't seem to get past 427fsb or so
Is this board really that poor of an overclocker in terms of FSB or am I missing something? I've read through the P5B deluxe threads hoping for answers but I don't think I'm missing anything, nor do the results of the P5B deluxe match what I'm getting. I'm quickly getting tired of my 3.8ghz @ 1.42v e6400 being limited to 3.4ghz on this board, somebody please help
p.s. - This board seems to undervolt the CPU by about .064v before load. I have to set 1.4v just to get 1.336 idle. Seems pretty dismal.
Currently running:
CPU - 1.4v set (1.336v actual) 8x425 = 3.4ghz @ 46c in Core Temp during SP 32m
Ballistix - 2.25v 850mhz 3-3-3-4 1:1
NB voltage - 1.55v
FSB Voltage Shutoff or whatever - 1.45v
vICH - 1.2v
