Finally, we have to introduce them HD 2000 Series Integrated HD Audio Processor specifications, It supports AC3 (5.1) standard Dolby Digital and DTS encoded format, 32kHz,44.1kHz,48kHz support of the 16-bit Audio Streams, WinXP for the Vista operating system and we have had good support, Audio specifications can be said to fully meet demand for mainstream HDTV. Radeom HD 2000HDMI!It can be said, I think Radeom HD 2000 graphics available on the HDMI output is absolutely the most perfect! Perfect!Perfect!

HDMI sound capable. There's no audio jacks on the card.

There is a small issue. A DVI->HDMI converter is a comon thing. There is already ATI cards that need a HDMI Audio driver, so thats nothing new.
DVI dont really have spare pins for sound, so unless its a non DVI compliant port...

This is the real thing (x1600).

Or this, 690G with HDMI+Sound. Funny enough need the same driver...

So i´m still not convinced that regular cards got it.

Look at the Realtek drivers and you will see that there is only one drivers for all the HD ACL88X. YOu will find that there are not different drivers for a ACL880 or a ACL883, ACL885, ACL888. I think the driver you posted is for both the HD2XXX cards and the 690G chipset motherboards. As for the DVI port I have seen 2 DVI LCDs usin on one DVI port displaying 2 different images and it was not a extended desktop ether. For 5.1 sound it would need a lower number of pins then another DVI LCD so theres plenty of unused pins in the DVI port.

Single link, enough for two lower res. But its supposed to be full bandwidth dual link (30" Dell's etc 2560x1600@60Hz). So all the pins are used, its a standard DVI-I dual link socket, wheres the sound route?

In order to get the full benefit of both sound and video from a HDMI connection is if you use a HDMI TV or DVD/HD DVD Home theater system like Bose:
    -dvd or BR/HD
    -sound system
    -speakers
All you do in connect it to your TV. I am not sure if they use HDMI yet though. Anything less and you are paying a premium just to use the HDMI cable for just Audio or just Video were DVI cable on average cost less.

Any HDTV now comes with HDMI input. Ideally, you want to hook it up to a HDMI receiver, which outputs video back to TV and audio out to your speakers.

^^ ye, all TVs now a days are with HDMI. And if lucky a VGA aswell. So a HDMI converter is a good thing. Its abit of a replacement of the old VGA one.

I myself got a 1 cable with DVi in one end and HDMI in the other. Simply because my TV only got a VGA and a HDMI and I want digital.

I take IQ story with a grain of salt, and Fuzilla story with a spoon full of salt.

I don't expect 2600 to be SUPER good, but it'll probably be on par with the 8600.

They report everything that they think .

Well good to see that the HD2600 will be powerful enough to handle games of today and also the cooler looks much simpler than the 2900XT. Well I doubt someone will keep that cooler as default anyway.
