I did it my IHS removal (E6300)

I did it guys My first successful IHS romoval on a 775 soldered on chip My L629A E6300 was the donor

First i did the norm of cutting all the silicone off the ihs, then i setup the 4 razors so they overlap each other and give pressure to the chip. then set it on two glasses (on the razors edge) so that when the solder melted the chip would fall. Then used a small butane mini torch to heat the ihs quickly and it dropped. Cleaned off the solder with my fingernail and a razor and plopped it back in. Used to idle @ 33c now down to 28-29c

How did you compensate for the HSF/block not being at the same height? Isnt the core under the silver LGA775 socket mount?

    EDIT:

I never did worry. Ive done about 15 or so naked amd's with BT's and infinity coolers and even a tuniqtower. Never once damaged a core.

Do you have to heat up the core directly to clean off the solder once the top is popped?

    Thanks!

Nope it scrapes off with a finnger nail, its very soft. I used my fingernail for the large clumps then a razor you get the rest, when i was done i used metal polish to clean it the rest of the way

Good work with that, couldn't fathom doing it myself. The thought of dead hardware is too daunting.

Wonderful, looking at the naked cpu in the socket... absolutely gorgeous... could this be done with a normal cigarette lighter too?

metal polish to clean the core, then a razor to carefully clean the silicone, then i used the metal polish to clean any traces of the silicone

Great job man, well done! I was just thinking the other day if anyone had successfully pulled the IHS off of a C2D yet, well now I know! You are the first person I know who has done this successfully although there is a good chance someone else already did it?

By the way, although I read through the thread I'm still wondering how you were able to push the CPU into the socket (so that BSEL pads would make proper contact with socket pins)? I would assume that the force of mounting the heatsink was enough to properly push the CPU down into the socket? Thansk for your help and once again, great job!

Yup ive been running the rig since i did this without the socket cover. THe pressure from the block is sufficient
