What motherboard are you using? I think it's my RAM that's limiting me, but with my Asus Crosshair (Nforce 590 SLI) the DDR2-400, 533, and 667 dividers stop working past 280 HTT. I think I could clock mine higher except I'm stuck with /5 which stresses my RAM. The other weird thing is Memtest86+ 1.7 goes through 1 pass fine (so I don't suspect RAM) and 1M SuperPi works, but Orthos blend fails, but Orthos small FFT works. So I'm leaning towards the problem being RAM, but given all the other weird stuff I've encountered, I don't know.

OCZ Platinum Rev 2 PC2-6400 2x1GB @ 2.2V. I know these sticks can do 490 @ 5-5-5-15 for sure (ran 24hr Orthos blend with X2 3800+) however with this new Sempron, it can boot and go through at least 1 pass of Memtest86 at 520 @ 5-5-5-15. With the old CPU, it would refuse to POST past 500, and even 495 would error out Memtest instantly (test #2).

Anyway the fact that the CPU doesn't stabilize at all even with very high voltage makes me lean to the RAM, but the damned dividers don't work properly at high HTT so I can't be sure

why don't you just run a divider to find the max of your cpu and tweak your ram later?

That's the problem, with this motherboard, the higher dividers don't work with high HTT. Of the four I have available to me, DDR2-400, DDR2-533, DDR2-667, and DDR2-800, only the DDR2-800 divider (/5) works when the HTT gets past 260 or so. Which is weird again, since with the Sempron's 8x multiplier, both the 667 and 800 dividers are the same /5 divider. So I can't clock my RAM any slower.

With my previous X2 3800+ CPU, I was able to solve this issue by using clock skew (advance 600ps) so the DDR2-533 (/8) divider worked but the DDR2-400 divider (/10) still did not work. With the Sempron, NOTHING works. I've tried clock skew, drive strength, a dozen different subtimings, etc.

Nope. AFAIK there is no RH mod bios for the Asus Crosshair. I've tried the 0502 and beta 0602, same thing.

What RAM were you using? I have this problem only with 2x1GB of ProMOS based RAM. I have 2x256MB of generic Micron RAM and it works fine all the way to 370 HTT. When I was using the X2 3800+, it was also fine at the DDR2-400 setting with 2x1GB Micron based Corsair 6400C3DF, so I'm leaning towards something funny in the BIOS that doesn't like the ProMOS RAM.

It is my RAM! I set the RAM termination manually to 50 ohms and 528MHz or DDR2-1046 (330x8) is perfectly Orthos blend stable after 45 minutes, previously it would error out instantly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, the last time I tested this RAM it topped out at 490, the last set I had a few months back topped out at 460. Off to play with the drive strength timings now!

I'm just a guy into budget OCing. I don't have any association with the ebay guy if that's what you are implying. If you search out my posts, I have a few but relevant posts stretching back at least a few months.

I dislike the reselling too, which is why I posted it to this thread as opposed to a more general deal area. I figured people reading this would more interested in using it for themselves and would appreciate an F3 if they lucked out with one.

I suppose these ebay opterons are not quite the incredible buy for the budget overclocker like they were a few weeks ago, now that Newegg is selling the Brisbane X2 3600 for $73. I like having the extra cache of the Opteron though. Now if only mine would get here, this ebay guy does not seem to be the fastest shipper.

    of course
i started with it at 3242mhz, but it failed after a little while, so i dropped it down and did the full 6 hours at 3327mhz. why bother posting the shot otherwise?

I finally received my cheap ebay opty 1210 yesterday and it was an F3! It seems like it's a decent core because it will do 9x300 at 1.15v. This low multiplier is holding me back though. I can't seem to post at much above 300 on my M2N-SLI Dlx. I tried upping the chipset voltages +.1 and the max async latency up to 9, but it didn't help. I'm running the ram at the 533 setting, which my sticks should be handling fine. I can't post at even 300 with the ram at the 400 setting so maybe some ram timing is automatically being set too low for an 800+ speed? Any ideas?

FYI I changed my mind from a DFI INFINITY CFX3200-M2/G to a GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 but it also supports Opteron 1210 and probably 1212 etc. I should receive it sometime early next week. It will be a bit before I can buy the rest of the components and start overclocking.

I'm wondering though if the Opteron 1210 or X2 6000+ would be a better overclocker?
