    $100 1gb King

Got a single 1gb stick of pc2-5400 ddr2-666 kingston value ram today for $100 Canadian after taxes (about $85 usd) after seeing some thread in VR. I'm running it at 900mhz 4-4-4-12 2.1v and did 2 passes of memtest86+. I'm not done testing them yet but i'll press on and see what i get. I'll post some pics soon.

This is on a P5N-E SLI mobo.

I can't see what kinda IC's they are since they just say kingston but i think they're hynix.

For $100 there are definitely no complaints

Here's where you can get some http://ramstore.ca/item/showproduct....8badf39ac7db40

    Here's the update the ram ran 2x passes of memtest86+ at 960mhz 4-4-4-12 2.2v

Just finished another 2 passes of MT at 975mhz 5-5-5-12 2.2v
    Also did 980mhz 4-4-4-12 2.3v

I'm using unlinked right now and cpu's still at 1.8ghz.

show us some pics of the stick and we'll tell you what ICs this module is based on. Can it go higher with more volts?

I can't seem to push this stick over 1000mhz at least not at 4-4-4 timings. They're getting a bit hot and they dont' have heat spreaders so that doesn't help.

I'm gonna try updating the bios to see if i can get this up any higher.

U don't need no steenkin heatspreader!

Just put a fan over them. That is much better than any heatspreader.

You got some nice sticks mate. I tried some more testing and was able to get ram to post this time at higher speeds. I'm typing this right now with 933 5-6-6-6-18 6-42-3-12-12-12-8-12-6 2.1v. When I load memtest in windows, it starts erroring immediately.

edit: hmm looks like I might have found my culprit. I have bios settings for vdimm all the way up to 2.45v. however, the p5b vanilla is only supposed to support vdimm up to 2.1v. I just assumed I got lucky, and since the special battery in my dmm is out and I haven't gotten another, I just assumed it to be setting what I chose in bios. But clearly, it's showing that 2.1v is the highest that's actually working properly. Now I'm testing 800 4-4-4-4-12 4-35-2-10-10-10-8-10-4 2.1v.

Here we go a pic of the IC.

As for where i got it. I just got it at some shop that was close 2 my house. Paid $100 canadian FLAT for it.

As for volts it doesn't seem to like it at all. I tried pumping 2.6v into it and didn't yield any better results. Might be because its just too hot tho. If i relaxed the latencies to 5-5-5 I might be able to hit 1000mhz.

    The 980 4-4-4-12 at 2.3v is 100% stable.

No, it's definitely not Elpida. This is what Elpida looks like:

Three indented dots and a packaging edge surrounding the IC.

Your IC is more likely to be Powerchip, as I stated in the other thread.

No, you have to look at the size and placement of the dot... and the size and placement of the text right next to the dot.. and the font.

The two pics of the kingston IC's, based on the dot size and the roughness I would guess micron.

Compare to dinos22's IC's and you'll see the dots are the same size.

However, for the price my guess is promos. Very interesting.

Nearly all relabeled microns also have the 4 character code you see on the chip towards the bottom of the ram stick

If you look at the micron's they're rectangular shape while the two kingston's are more square.

Dunno if that makes a difference but just an observation.

Hmm. Am I ready to get a p5b, celeron and a stick of this? Will set me back about 300usd...
