The general feeling we have is that the 640MB version is going to be discontinued, and it does make sense to do so.

    yeah, right

lol cooper thats only in COH! in anyother game it was all most as good as the 640mb
damn they should have done some BF2 benchies or splinter cell Double Agent. these games can really eat up the video card memory

Hmm seems like the extra 320MB makes a decent difference in a select few instances. Considering how the 640MB versions are currently selling for $20-$30 more after rebate it would make almost no sense to not buy the 640MB 8800GTS. Now my question is why is the Egg selling this Foxconn 640MB 8800GTS for so cheap.

Am I going to buy a card that can play all but the newest titles the same as a card that's AU$100 more? No.

I'm going to buy the 640MB card, cos I'm getting a 1920x1200 monitor and texture sizes (and consequently required frame buffer) are going to increase on average.

Worth the extra $$ if you plan to play future games on a decent size monitor.

Legit Reviews tested both a 320MB underclocked and a 640MB overclocked.

I hope the 640Mb version wont be discontinued, the performance difference is substantial in several ocasions...

hmm i was hoping they would have the same performence.
and the perf gap is bigger then i woulda have thought.
the cheapest 640Mb i know of is 330 euro. the cheapest 320MB (not in stock) is 270 euro.

its likely the 320Mb will drop even more in price when its availability gets better.

300 on the egg is still a little pricey for my budget, maybe towards the beginning of the summer i can flip the bills for one of these 320 versions

I think this card is aimed at people looking to buy a card for long-term use (1+ years), and who only game at lower resolutions (<1280x1024).

For them it is a great buy, as it will keep pace with the GTS640 and the GTX in the vast majority of future titles.
