    Advice Please:reach 3.6 Orthos Stable (E6600, 32M SPi Stable). 3.2GHZ rock solid.

    rig:
    E6600, L627A
    TT BT w/ Silverstone 110CFM intake towards CPU w/ AS5
    Corsair 6400 5-5-5-12 2x1GB, 1.9V, ProMOS ICs (pretty sure...) (latency has to set manually)
    Asus P5B Dlx Wifi 0804 BIOS, no mods
    eVGA 7900 GTO @ 720/710
    2x Seagate 7200.10 320GB (RAID 0 by ICH8)
    X-Fi Platinum
    Antec P180
    Two Antec 79CFM exhaust right from CPU, One Antec Bottom HD Cage Intake, one Silverstone 110CFM intake top HD cage.
    OCZ 700W GXS

    First OC settings:
    CPU Freq: 400
    DRAM Freq: 800
    PCI Express Lock: 96
    PCI Clock Sync: 33.33
    Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    Mem Volts: Auto
    VCORE Volts: 1.400V
    FSB Term Volts: Auto
    NB Volts: Auto

    Everything beneath disabled, except CPUTM, Execute Disable Bit.

    Stable @ 3.2 GHZ 12 HRS Orthos Stress CPU Priority 9
    Max CPU Temp: 44 C

    Now I went to try 400x9 since that was successful:

    Everything same EXCEPT (after much fine tuning to get as far as I could in ORTHOS)(farthest in Orthos= ~6 mins):
    Multiplier: 9
    5-5-5-15-15-42-10-10-10-10
    VCORE: 1.5125
    NB: 1.45
    SB: 1.60
    FSB Term: 1.3
    MEM: 1.9

    Stable SPi 1M, 8M, 32M.
    Orthos either quits within 15 seconds, (returns error or whole system freeze)
    or 6 mins. Solved booting failures with higher NB and VCORE.

    Tried 450x8:

    DDR2 @ 900 Mhz
    MEM: 2.05 V
    VCORE: 1.5250
    FSB Term: 1.3
    NB: 1.55
    SB: 1.6

    Unstable Orthos.
    Stable SPi.

    What should I do from here. During monitoring, I see that Asus Probe reports a VCORE of 1.45-1.48. Time for Voltage mods?
    Temp max reaches 54 C.

    From advice drawn from XS posts, I think I'm having FSB/965 NB problems. I skipped the 350-360 range and went straight to 400. And then I find that I should skip the range of up to 400 to take pressure off strap. so 450 here I come. Then failure.
    If its not the FSB or NB, then I think the voltages not being enough. Finally CPU, then RAM limitations.

    If somebody could please guide me in the right direction please?

    Try reading the first post of this thread. I'd say set nb vcore to 1.6-1.65vcore, set ram to 4-4-4-12-4-42-3-10-5-13 2.1-2.2v @ 400FSB. These are ideal for micron based ram, but I used it with my promo based corsair 6400 Pro's. Your FSB voltage need to be @ least 1.4 -1.45v. Here's another good thread by Tony that may help you as well.

    You can try settings that allow you to boot into windows then use clockgen while running orthos, lower fsb until orthos allow you to get pass your previous time. Keep doing it and you will probably find a more stable clock speed. If you what to find higher max just bring up ur vcore some then do the same thing with orthos. It may be failing due to not enough voltage.

    Maybe you can lower your multiplier and raise your fsb after u find out max orthos clock limit then try different multipliers and same fsb and see if its ur board capping you at certain fsb.

    Im a noob OCer so just lil stuff that might help.

    3.69 ghz at 410x9

    Maxed volts on everything else besides ICH (auto).
    STABLE (2hrs 52 min 58 sec)

    Testing if FSB is limiting the CPU:

    3.5 ghz at 440x8
    VCORE 1.6375V, given 1.54V during Orthos.
    2.1V MEM 5-5-5-12
    Mem 440Mhz 1:1
    Auto SB Volts
    Maxed FSB Term & NB
    63 degrees Celsius under load. (Much cooler at 400x9=3.6 Ghz)
    STABLE (3hrs 15 min 5 sec)

    Testing higher FSB x 8:
    465x8=3.720 GHZ!!!
    2.10V MEM 5-5-5-12 465 MHZ (930 dual) 1:1
    1.6625 VCORE (Given 1.57 Orthos)
    1.80 SB
    ICH Auto
    Hit 67 degress Celsius under load MAX.
    43 degrees Celsius IDLE.
    13 hrs 5 min dual Orthos
    STABLE!
    edit: getting 1.59 V now. No temp increase. Am i getting into danger zone?

    It seems as though the voltage resistors etc. on the mobo have so-called "burned-in"? Because the voltages before at lower MHZ (2.4, 3.2, 3.6) were fluctuating. But after a ton of Orthos, the volts drop and stay constant at that level. Once after Orthos, it stays at that voltage. Time for vmods anyways.

    Question about VMODS: what do I go with. Cermet? on wikipedia it says to get "wireground" (the square ones with the 3 pins) "pots" (with the 25 turn screw). then 10k. does the material matter (cermet, plastic...)

    After I do vmods, ill go to watercooling (u2-ufo) and hit 3.8 ghz. It will boot up fine, but the volts only get max 1.55 Volts w/ Asus Probe and at BIOS bootup. Therefore it fails Orthos.

    Are there many which can do 3.8 Ghz Orthos fine? or is it mainly just non-orthos 24/7 comps that just run fine. Is orthos really necessary? and also....do 3dmark scores count when there are artifacts?

    and last question: when is the nvidia 89xx series coming? no dates yet I suppose?

    Sounds like C1E or Speedstep or both are still active.

    You have to disable both those options in the bios so your pc doesnt throttle down while idle to lower speeds and also lower than set vcores.

    C1E, Speedstep, and CPUTM, PECI are disabled. Only enabled are Ratio, Execute Disable Bit, and the multi.

    I'm running the popular 400x9 (3.6 ghz) on 1.55 vcore (only needs 1.53, but just to be safe since it runs f@h 24/7). temp is about 48 on load.

    since my d9gkx gskill died (rma is coming!), i've held off on ocing for the mean time

    my sig. 3 silverstone 110 cfm fans (mounted one more), 2x antec tricool and 1x tricool 120x38 for the hd. big typhoon + as5. no lap.
