    nn_step's XS OS -- THE REAL TEST -- PII 333 / 32MB / 5GB >> 56k warning

Well I got a old laptop to use off a dude on Hard forum, and as we all know Windows 98SE sucks. It has no Ethernet so It was just sitting here, and would continue to until I got my Wireless PCIMCIA card. So I was like, well this'd be perfect to really test XSOS with, RAM & CPU usage wise. So I contacted NN and he directed me to the area where I could download his newest creation, XS OS v2.01. After about a half hour, which includes a full NTFS reformat, I'm @ Windows Desktop.

Crazy for a PII 333MHz & 32MB ram, right? It gets better.

After plinking around a bit, getting some windows open, etc, I check RAM useage. LESS than 32MB used... WOW.

The modding and coding skills of nn_step are just amazing, look how customized this copy of Windows 2000 is?!

    Heh, nice customization.

Yeah you read that right, 5GB hdd baby.

    Formatting done in no time

No graphics drivers for the lose, but setup is goin!

    w00t almost done!

Finally.. now for the real awesomeness.

    Tada!!

Simply amazing for Windows 2000. Awesome job nn_step.

Expect this OS to be out SOON!

Well XSOS version 2.0 is available for download at
    nnstep.com
However Version 2.01 is a beta and is only available to beta testers UNTIL we can confirm that we have achieved what we are aiming for. If you have problems with version 2.0 let me know

Actually after a fresh boot, Ram usage is UNDER 26MB..
The 32MB is the Amount of Ram His system actually has

nn when you get your hands on embedded you will start to understand where the true power of XP comes into play.

as much as i truly love nlite.. ripping apart xp with nlite and adding custom bitmaps into system info page is childs play....

go get embedded and learn embedded, you can actually have an embedded xp on your hard drive that is on the desktop before a CRT monitor is even fully warmed up.

i had the chance to tool around with embedded several years ago and you cant even begin to imagine what xp can do or what it can be like until you know that you can have a fully running xp that is embedded into a flashrom chip.... in other words xp embedded in XSOS style would be god...

if you really wanna get down and dirty, the embedded tools and embedded PE tools are, or were free to download... check them out on the M$ site.

    Here we go again...

Try to repeat this with nLite, and achieve same footprint and resourceusage...please do.

I have seen ppl come and go, "XP "coolname" releasers" in the dozens....and yet haven't seen anyone to get even close.

I have been through both PE and Sfioritos XP Systembuilder applet a looooong time ago, but at this level you will not accomplish anything by using them.

As for booting "before CRT is warmed up".., you are talking about the fact that with PE you are not using any designated users account but instead logging in directly in "root"..(with issues following that) ..the gain in boottime is not that big if compared with a heavily lightened OS as this..(no, not only nLite..again).

This isn't even XP I think, but a modification of Windows Freestyle unless thats a custom name. It's built on Win2k SP4 though.

    my 2k3 : ~14.000
    XSOS : : ~14.250

is it possible to make an 2k3 server with all same optimisation as this one nn_step ?

    if yes, how ?

actually the nice thing is there is plenty of tweaking room left in XS OS for Specific applications
