Asus P5B Deluxe 506X9 no mods

I was testing my Kentsfield on the P5B and could only get FSB up to 400. But then I stuck my 6600ES in the board. Much different results. The board is not modded. Running 4-4-4 timings for all the tests.

    M/B: Asus P5B Deluxe
    BIOS: 0502
    CPU: Conroe 6600ES
    RAM: Corsair 6400C3 @ 4-4-4-12
Cooling: Dry ice + 3" copper pot
    Vcore: 1.685 (BIOS), VDimm: 2.45v
    Vmods: None

    Highest FSB so far

    Cinebench @ 500X9

Sadly, there are no Windows overclocking programs that work with this board. Also, BIOS does not allow me to change the multiplier with Conroe and I can only use downward multis with Kentsfield. I think this board is capable of 530+ FSB unmodded.

I did run some tests with Kentsfield, but I didn't get very far because of FSB limitation.

    Cinebench @ 3980MHz

WOW That 4.5GHz is just awesome for E6600, sierra Might be even the best result on that CPU so far... Are you gonna try 32M on a next session?

    Thanks

    @bachus
32M results are awful with 965 chipset. I ran 32M at 4.4GHz. Result was worse than same chip on 975 board @ 3.9GHz.

    @PcCI2iminal
I'm using an old Leadtek 6600 card in the second slot, mainly to keep it away from the dry ice tube.

    Holy !!!

No mods on mobo, and I cant even pass 420 without mods with my P5W DH... - However, just got it modded last night, so Im up for some DICE runnin' as well

Btw... Chipset cooling, what did you use??? - Im considering some VapoLS coolin', should be efficient?

I haven't touched the chipset. I have a big Delta fan blowing air on the northbridge. The fan also helps to dry up any condensation. The latest P5B Deluxe BIOS allows for FSB up to 600. But I just need 500FSB and a little bit more.

    Good Job..........

I never seen P5B Deluxe can do FSB 500+, you are first.

What is memory? 512MBx2 or 1Gx2?

    Some 965 mobos 1Gx2 cannot FSB 500+.

    Corsair 6400C3 (2X1GB)

When I set 4-4-4 timings in BIOS, CPU-Z will read them as 4-7-7.

I've also been able to run the Corsairs at DR2-1200 and 4-4-4 with this board.

good..........It's better than gigabyte because DS3 DS4 DQ6 are hard to run 1GX2 FSB 500.

can the mobo handle high fsb and high clocks?

    500fsb is very nice anyway

No pics right now. I've disconnected everything. The board is thawing out.

I think 4553MHz is a pretty high clock. That's a 90% overclock on the CPU.

hehe 90% most mean intel intside

its a hell of clock, and its not the cpu who stops
are you going to mod the board soon?

I might do the VCore mod. Would be nice to have more than 1.7v.

CAL930 in Japan has an interesting comparison of the Gigabyte DQ6 and the Asus P5B Deluxe.

It seems like this board is pretty inconsistent. Read two reviews, one from Bit-tech and another from Neoseeker. Bittech got awesome results, neoseekers crappy results. Sooooo.....

The board is important, but so is the CPU. This 6600ES did 4.1GHz with air cooling, so I knew it had potential. A good board will certainly help. But it won't turn a so-so overclocking chip into a great one.

500+ FSB is becoming quite commonplace. But most of the results are with a 6 or 7 multiplier. Much harder to do with a higher multiplier. You need both good cooling and a good CPU.

Very very intense overclock...90%, sheesh. Somewhere in the hign 4.6 GHz range has been done for CPU-Z, but yours probably the highest benchable so far. Seems like 100% is on the way. Gotta give kudos to Intel for putting out such overclockable CPU's.

Thanks, Gautum. I was a little disappointed with my Kentsfield FSB results. I thought the board would allow more than 400. The BIOS allows me to change the multiplier for Kentsfield, but only downward. Asus needs to come out with a P5B BIOS that will unlock the higher multis too. The P5W DH already has that option for Kentsfield. But FSB is limited to around 350 on the P5W DH. So each board has its strengths and weaknesses.

how's the vcore droop on this thing? seems like every asus intel board has droop, I wouldn't be surprised if this one has it too.

there is no consistancy in overclocking.
alot of overclocking is luck, and determination.

experience, and willingness to mess with every concievable tweak option there is also help

(alot of people just want to set 8x500 and run like that, with no effort and give up if they can't)
