    L629F update

Lapped CPU (what a spoon, Intel should be ashamed) and set up with water. Now I need 1.45vcore to run 3.6GHz stable. Not bad...

Running small ffts temps were 75C+ with the Ninja. Now after lapping and the water I am sitting at 61C again running small ffts. This CPU runs quite warm it appears.

Just for fun later I will try some suicide runs, I want 32M Pi at at least 4GHz. I should be able to do it now. Then again...

Nice, but the chip runs hot indeed
4ghz 32M is not just something, good luck!

L646G512. Takes 1.6V to get to 3.3Ghz, watercooled. Will try my luck with a pair of Xeons coming in soon.

I just pulled 2 more E6600's from HP systems. Another L629F, and a L646G. This L629F is identical to the other i pulled last week. It replaced my X6800. 3800mhz 1.46 after vdroop 1.53 set in bios. 60-63c Small FFT. Outstanding chips considering whats been out lately. The L646G was only in for 5 min. It wouldn't even post at 3400 with 1.53 so i yanked it. L629F is the chip to look for IMO.

Interesting, on the fence now. get a L629F now or wait a few days and try for a L629B.

the new batches seem better than mine and my friends' Week 24 ones

at 3.25 gig it needs 1.5V Vcore (in bios)

won't even post 75% of the time at 8x401 too

    Mark.

    Very nice result
Mine can probably reach that speed too, but I don't want to put more than 1.56v through it on air cooling. 1.56v = 3956mhz 1M.

On the Scythe RevB Ninja and unlapped cpu the temps were way too high to go much above 1.55vcore. Once lapped and put under water the temps were much more manageable. When I can finally get my hands on one of the new TR Ultra 120 extremes I am going to give it a try just to see how good it really is.

But anyhow, these L629F chips are very good. Still can't beat my old Xeon3060 though. 3.6GHz on stock vcore...shoulda kept that one

3.6gHz at stock vcore is amazing

My temps on air are pretty good, but I don't want to put more vcore through it, because of the dangers of electronmigration: want to keep the chip as "fresh" as possible for PC cooling. After benches with PC I may use some higher vcore on air

Jeez..a few weeks ago everyone seem to think the 629F were real hit or miss...either real good or real bad...

So 2 more reports that they are good but run warm..I would like to see more reports on the 629F...not going to buy one..I refuse to chase ..MHZ anymore..but I wish I had bought one from Tankguys to try

If you have a chance to pick up a L628F028, go for it.... 455x9 on AW9D-Max... could do more but I think I hit a mobo (chipset) wall... needed 2.37v vmch as reported by uGuru. Watercoooled NB (Swiftech MCW30). Anyway, here ya go... (best 1m pi time is 12.282 (loose RAM timings)... this is as close as I could get this morning. Best thing about this chip is that it runs very cool even with a high vcore volts. Using a TT Bigwater 745. 32pi would follow soon.

How much voltage are you firing through the e6600?

1.6250v set in bios for 455x9. I think the AW9D-Max overvolts quite a bit though. This is not a clockgened oc either, this is the actual bios setting.

    I've just bought a L701 C574 E6600 from a computer fair today for £120

Just need the mobo and ram now, will post results when I get up and running.

Just purchased a L629F 219 and waiting on delivery sometime this week. Will be testing it on a P5B and then a 680i (when it arrives). Thanks for all the info and advice here. Im new to overclocking and have been hard bitten by the bug.

Btw, I started with a 328A e6300 and on my first attempt hit 3.4 w/ stock cooling. I attribute the success to the volumes of info and available reseach here at XS. Thanks so much, it so greatly appriciated. I can't wait to test this 629F after seeing the results. Keep up the excellent work!

    SPOONED again

Just got an L629B from Tankguys. I could eat cereal out of this thing.

I set it up anyway and ran it at stock vcore (1.2). 3.25GHz orthos and 3D stable. But temps ON WATER are 58C. I took the water block off and the only places making contact AT ALL are the 4 corners. Can't even see any thermal paste on it though it is quite visible on the IHS. Me thinks this is gonna be a clock-monster once it is lapped

I just got my L629B from Tankguys too and it is also suffering from a "spooned" or concave IHS. Otherwise this chip is absolutely amazing. I have currently been priming at 3.6ghz w/ 1.29V loaded for 15 minutes, AMAZING!!!! Mine is also a hot hot hot chip reaching 55C loaded on watercooling but lapping should stop all that.

I just ordered a l629f box. I'm actually psyched to lap the cpu and the Ultra 120 if they turn up anything less than flat. Tank guys rocks for giving up the digits.

Unfortunately they are OOS. They only got a few in and they went quick. But don't be afraid of the L629F. Mine ROCKS. I had some 32M Pi runs at 4+ GHz, orthos stable at 3.6GHz and 1.43vcore. Very nice chip considering what has been around lately.

Currently folding 24/7. My temps seem very low considering the voltage and my modest cooling. My old E6300 would have melted down at 1.5V.

Can't get 3.5 Ghz stable for more than 30 minutes and the system will not POST at 3.6 GHz.
I got a chip from the same batch, I have a p5b deluxe and I tried 1.5v idle with 1.46v under load and it was not 100% stable at 3.4ghz (failed orthos after ~2hours). I stopped upping the voltage there, the min volts for 3.2ghz is 1.38v at load. I havent tried incrementally upping the mhz at this voltage yet though. I also cannot post at 3.6ghz.

I wish we could get L629F from another source. I'd love to try one, but not for $240 + shipping. Q6600s will be $266 in a few weeks.

Isn't it bizarre? You'd think we could at least POST at 3.6. It's almost like there's something else going on that we're missing. Considering we're using different motherboards, I'm at a lost for what that could be. I think Intel is just mocking us because they know we all want 3.6.

So here are the results from my L629B from TankGuys. It's the best chip I have seen in a while. The temps read real high on this chip but it cant be right since the chip is reading 34C from a thermocouple I have slapped to the side of the IHS. My room doesn't get as hot anymore either so I know its putting out less heat than before. My old chip was 1.45V @ 3.6ghz 50C loaded, this chip is 1.344V @ 3.6ghz 62C loaded so I know its wrong. I lapped the IHS and its making great contact.

I just lapped mine from Tankguys and am currently running orthos small ffts at 3.81GHz with 1.37vcore at 44C. This is a very nice chip. Once I get some info I will post some screenies.

The temps you see very well could be real. That is where I was before I lapped the IHS. Now it is running quite cool.
