Nice, I have been wondering about this!
Now I have the evidence as well to properly enlighten my friends who have a bit more will to upgrade than actual need.

But where the Core 2 CPU's fail, encoding at gaming at the same time. ie h.264 720 - 1080p FMLE Justin.TV. I can not get playable frame rates in game while streaming. Now if I had a 2500k or 2600k I could stream 1080p and have no slowdowns while gaming. tested with QX9650 between 3.8 and 4.4ghz.
I can stream HoN and LoL at 720p while streaming even at 3.8, however WoW has a noticeable slowdown, and forget about First Person Shooters.

I can picture in my mind a world without hate, a world without violence.
And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.
I might be able to help you there, you are streaming with FMLE as in Flash Media Live Encoder, which version? I like FMLE, you actually have control over your stream when using it, but I think it wastes way too much resources.
What program are you using to capture video from the games?
Can continue this on private message, so we don't pollute this thread too much ^^

Great Review - keep them coming.
Thanks guys! Unfortunately I sold my older platform and thus won't be able to do another revision of the review...but I plan to do other things, such as comparing wether SSD's are worth it for gaming or not (comparing my C300 128GB raid 0 vs some random HDD). Now I just need some time to start playing with toys again
So If I have E8400 there's no need of upgrading to i5 2500K?

It will all depend on your games suite Tedy... if you like eg to play the battlefield series a quad core is a must... but looking at your current setup (signature) you need a complete overhaul to boost general game performance.
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree
When thinking about what part should I upgrade, I try to rationalice (however its written xd ) like this:
What happens if:
a) I expend $150 in a new VGA (like, lets say, a GTX460):
I will get a 150% improvement, and probably more.
b) I expende $150 in a new platforma (selling the old one but keeping the VGA):
I will get a 15% improvement.
Its clear that the best you can do is get a new VGA. Once you do it, its easier and more logical if you try to apply some math to calculate the gains each $ will bring you.

I'm glad my article is still useful to this day
with the system in my sig, running at your test resolution, the reason for the 8fps was the driver stopped responding but recovered.
you can't count out the 260's yet tho, in a multi card setup you can still get some great numbers..
