Will it actually help production if I add an extra NIC card into the rig? If so, I've heard that there might be conflicts when doing so, can someone guide me through it?
Also how about virtual network adapters?

Do you mean to replace your current nic? I believe you can only choose one to use for your internet. If your onboard nic is not up to the job I recommend an Intel NIC card Best of the best If you have WMware or a similar program the virtual network adapters will be bridged with the NIC on your main, non-virtual OS and the internet will be extended to those virtual machines.
It won't help as you still only have 1 modem.
My experience of this is varied....but as a general rule running with intel nic's means less crashes etc...generally more reliable, but other than for that reason no more points.
As for installing, plug it in and windows sees it and off you go...although you may want to load the newest driver...... http://www.intel.com/design/network/drivers/ or http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support
