As an added note I was able to replace the stock water block on anther sealed loop cooling system (an older Coolit Freezone Elite which uses TECs to chill the coolant) with a NB water block that came with a Gigabyte board I had without significant change in performance so opening sealed loop systems outside of the factory can be done, my question is can this one be closed again basically and still run. Thanks

I'm very happy with my unit

    Intel i5 750@4,6 (220x21/1,42v) EVGA P55 FTW
    GSkill Perfect Storm PC17066@2200 CL8-8-8-20-60 1T (1.67v)

    ...a i5 661 chip runs fine @4,8 and boosts up over 5G !

An exemple of what the H50 unit can handle forcing on the hardware

Not the same graphic cards for CF on the pics (and sorry for the bad quality of the dark ones)

    Thumbs up H50 working good

I was at Frye's looking for a good air cooler for my 965c3 when I happened to notice the H50 kit by Corsair.

My gaming rig is in a 2nd story loft so it gets toasty in the summertime.
To deal with the heat I have a WindChaser floor AC unit from Costco with it's intake tubes getting fresh air from the window.

I installed the H50 into the front of my Thermaltake case above the drive bays. I used the stock 120mm fan (maybe 1200rpm) as a puller and an Antec 120mm pusher (1700rpm).

The pictures show the original way I had it with the slower h50 stock fan as the pusher and the faster Antec as the puller. After switching the configuration around it works much better.

I made a tinfoil collector from the AC unit's outlet into some 5inch dryer duct and ran it to the front of the intake fan for the H50.

    Here are my results.

The H50 took 8c degrees off my fresh air load temps 44c compared to AC @ 3.4ghz 36c.
It took 18c degrees off my fresh air load temps 52c compared to AC @ 3.8ghz 34c.
It also took 18c degrees off my air idle vs. AC Idle temps.

Idle temps fresh air (fresh air was at about 74F)
    3.4ghz air 34c
    3.86ghz air 35c

    Idle under AC
    3.86ghz AC 17c

Each Prime95 load was right around 15 minutes Small FFTs for a baseline.

You can check this thread here http://www.overclock.net/water-cooli...es-owners.html

There are some modification for H50 in that thread although none of them involves the block replacement. You will find some radiator replacement and reservoir modifications though.

Say, how would the H50 modded with shroud and a high pressure fan like Ultra Kaze 2000 or 3000 (push, blowing air out of a very well ventilated case) compare to a shrouded and also with said fan (here: push-pull) mounted Venomous-X, when cooling a high volted (~1.4v) and HT enabled i7? Any ideas?

As long as your room temps are cool or you are pushing outside cooler air it will do a great job. I expect my temps to improve since the above pics are all the same day I installed the unit. It loves forced fresh air or better yet forced AC onto the 120mm radiator.

here is forced AC at idle 17c!

Does the ECO ALC from CoolIT perform on par with this?

Nice temps, but sadly I have no access to AC, my energy bill is already killing my budget just by running the folding rigs I have.

Is the consensus here that by tweaking the H50 with shrouds and stronger fans you could get more out of it than a tweaked Venomous-X? Did anyone ever did a comparison? I only see reviews with low volt chips or even not HT-enabled i7.
