Dominator GT vs Mushkin Redline - Which to Get?

    Hey All,
I'm having a hard time deciding between these to sets of RAM.
    Which should I get? Why?
Also, I will be eventually going to 12GB of RAM. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but I thought I'd throw that out there.

    Here are the choices:
    1. Mushkin Redline DDR3 1600
    2. Corsair Dominator GT DDR3 1600

I'm not looking for suggestions for other options.

    Thanks in advance!

Neither. Both of those kits are way overpriced.

    This 6GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 kit
is a very good one and runs at a lower voltage (1.5v), which provides more headroom.
    CPU: i7 920 C0 @ 3.8 GHz HT, 1.25v
    Cooling: Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme
    Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD5 w/ F9m BIOS
    Memory: 6GB G.Skill DDR3 1600
    Video: HIS 6950 2GB
Hard Drives: WD Black 640GB, 2x WD Green 1TB
    Power Supply: Corsair 850TX
    Case: Antec P180B
    Monitor: 30" Dell U3011 H-IPS
    Peripherals: Logitech Illuminated + G7 | Sidewinder X4
    Sound: Auzentech X-Fi Forte | Audio-Technica AD700 | Logitech Z-2300
    OS: Windows 7 Professional x64

It all depend on which speed you will run your cpu, does you game or mostly bench and also if you do alot of cad, photoshop and rendering. If you bench or do alot of rendering. Go for 2000mhz cl9 or lower kit, you will see a difference, if not, a good 1600mhz cl8 kit should be enough and the kit pc user have pointed would be good if you mostly play rather than bench.

I guess I didn't even consider the G.Skill. I could go with the 2000 kit for the money I'm willing to spend.

Well, here's the 4-1-1. I'll be using my machine to do a lot of HD (Bluray) video editing...and a few games here and there. I'll also be getting the new hexacore 980X (or whatever it's going to be called) as soon as it gets out. Now that I think of it, I should probably get a 2000 kit, or higher. I'm excited to see what kind of OC's I get with the new chip.
I'd like to get the new dual cpu Classified board, but I don't think that will fit into the budget this year

DDR3 2000 would give you more headroom but 1600MHz is certainly enough for a 3.6-4.0GHz overclock.

There r a few other brands that you could also look into like SuperTalent and Adata, i would go with a 2000 plus mhz based kit with 8-8-8 timings as they "should" b Hyper ic's, they will give you a lot more headroom then 1600 mhz based kits, yes they r more but by the sounds that doesn't matter 2 u

i voted Corsair's only because Mushkin hasn't seemed to be pushing high performance ram like Corsair has,( i used to bg a BIG Mushkin fan till a while back, now i just go with what seems best no matter the brand name) hell if you want the end all b all sticks and r willing to pay 200 bucks a pop on a 2gb stick the new Corsair 2250 GTX cas 8 ram is about as good as it gets (if u can stomach 1,200 bucks for 12gb of ram lol)

But as others have said it depends on what your doing with it and what you CPU clock is /will b, if you dont really do much with your comp there is no need for 12gb of ram, let alone 2000 cas 8, but if you game a lot, encode, do cad work then there is a reason for it, but if you dont plan on going over say 4ghz then 1600cas 8 or lower cas would be best for you (no need to waste cash)

I will be using my system for some light gaming, but primarily for video and photo editing in the Adobe Production Premium Suite....what do you suggest for that?

If you plan to overclock, it is really hard to push memory also. Need a lot of vtt voltage to run high clocks and ram. Your best bet is to run 1600 with tight timings. It makes it a lot more stable and the difference is negligible. It also is more cost effective. You would have better results to invest that money into a better processor, 50-100 mhz outweighs any gained ram performance.

I thought Elipda Hyper ICs are a problem? Or are they no longer problematic (failure prone)?

I don't know if I mentioned it, but I'll be running a 980X as soon as they become available. I'm leaning toward the Mushkin because of the better timings, but I'm still not 100% on that.
