    Question Corsair Dominator TWIN2X2048-6400C4D..opinions please

    Corsair Dominator TWIN2X2048-6400C4D 2GB DDR2-800 XMS2-6400

This seems like a pretty decent kit for the price. I will be putting them in the ASUS 680i with an e6600 on water (possibly a 437w TEC if I decide to replace my peltier) and I hope to hit 3600mhz.

Does anyone have any experience with this exact kit or have a better suggestion for my price range. I found that kit for $273 after rebate and would rather not spend more than $400 for a 2gb kit.

I did a search but couldn't find anything related to this memory. I saw Bachus_Anonym's review of the 8888 kit, but that is way out of my price range for ram.

    Input is appreciated

There is Buffalo firestix that are supposedly D9 unless they have changed receintly. They're under $250 at newegg right now for the DDR2-800 kit. Not sure about the IC used currently unless someone has info.

Or for a sure thing...get Teamgroup DDR2-800 for about $280 no rebates.

I think the TWIN2X2048-6400C4D uses micron D9GMH, it should be a good overclocker
One more thing in corsair tech support says all 5 dominator modules warranted up to 2.4 V so that is another confirmation that all dominators are D9
Those Firestix are D9 and costs 241$ but personally I would stick to the dominator

Which? The firestix? If that's the case it's really no contest IMO for the price they're at.

The product Newegg is selling is FSX800D2C-K2G when I click the aforementioned link.
    That P/N indeed has 5-5-5 @ 2.1V, so it could be D9GMH.
The firestix confirmed to be D9GKX are model number FSX1066D2B-K1G according to this review. http://www.virtual-hideout.net/revie...00/index.shtml

I have no idea where you see FSX1066D2B-K1G, but on that page it says FSX800D2B-K2G 4-4-4 @ 2.1V, which have D9GKX.
    Newegg's FSX800D2C-K2G are newer than FSX800D2B-K2G.
Also in regards to what you said about the corsair memory. Do you mean only the Dominator 8888 memory is D9GKX or does that incluse the Dominator 8500 also?
I never said Dominator uses D9GKX but yes, all Dominators have the same handpicked ICs.
    I think that anwser everything

Still good if it's D9GMH. Anyway newegg won't tell you the part number very clearly and you really have to go by specs and guess.

Not too sure I believe that all the Dominator memory use the same handpicked IC. If that were the case you could buy the cheapest dominator and run the same speed as the most expensive. They've gotta be binned differently.

i just got a 1GB kit (2x512) of firestix, FSX800D2C-K1G, and they are D9GMH. not sure if the 1GB sticks will be any different but they are the same part number, FSX800D2C. they are rated at 5-5-5 and the older FSX800D2B were rated for 4-4-4, those were the D9GKX ones i would imagine. HTH

Personally I wouldn't worry as any Micron D9 part will be really good. I'm just saying that the price (under $250) is really really good for a D9 part.

Next best thing since the crucial 10th anniversary are not available it seems. Unless you want to spend $311 for them direct from crucial. In that case it's better to go with a higher rated part and get it cheaper.

My 6400C4 Dominator kit I ordered a few weeks ago uses Promos chips not the D9s according to Corsair's IC info thread.
Exactly what are Promos chips? Are they crap compared to Micron D9's?
Makes me happy to know I spent $300 on crap. hehe I haven't tested then yet btw.

yea makes you wonder if corsair produces a first batch v1.1...50 kits using micron ics and sends them out to reviewers to create hype

and then make tons of it in v2.1 using promos ics...and everyone thinks theyre buying the good micron v1.1 kits lol

You guys are recommending the firestix like they aren't rated at 5-5-5-15 ddr800. I'm sure they are micron but they could easily be D9GCT which isn't in the same league with GMH and GKX. Crucial has some new PC8000 ram that is under $300. I would consider that before toying around with the firestix.

Buffalo confirmed them to be D9GMH. But the Crucial out there now for $260 after rebate is the best deal.

Ok now since this info came out I will never recommend any Corsair memory procust ever again to anyone. Charging $300+ for Promos crap is retarded. Corsair lost a customer for life.

Glad I didn't take the chance on them when I was undecided.

Promos is a generally inexpensive IC used in memory. There's others, but the one everyone seeks is Micron because they overclock great. Promos. Elpeda, Infenion and others do not.

OK. After some testing. I can now say Promos really is crap. Why are they called Dominators?? Because they dominate at sucking. The 6400C4D's anyways.
