    Dice Noob, First run

Ok, I've had the dice unit in my closet for about a year and so I've decided to use it for the first time. I have a Opty 170 and a FX55 both of which I have no idea if they have a cold bug.

    So I have a Q.

Is there any liquid out thier that doesn't smell like that I could use? My room's vetilated but at the mention of Acetone Dad said I "now have to take it outside".

I have my Dice, oops didn't know about the liquid part until after getting it (long story, ok not really but it more one that I don't want to tell). So, you guys need to hurry up and tell me what to get. I have rubbing achohol...?

You can use denatured alcohol (like rubbing alcohol).

I used alcohol the first time and it sucked. Acetone is the only way to go. I've benched with my window closed before to avoid high humidity outside and it's fine. The acetone pretty much freezes and you can't smell it. You only need a shot glass at most. Even with a tiny bit of ventilation it's fine.

I dumped some rubbin acholhol into it and then the Dice, the A immediatly started boiling and the top just fumed white "smoke?" Anyway that took place for a bout 15s and then it just sorta died out. I dumped more A and D in there happenend again, waited a few min then repeated and booted. Mobo read 20C then climbs to 62C (positive) and I turned it off.

Is stuff happenen the way its supposed to?

Ok, I think it's denatured, but I'm sure quite what you mean. 70% Isopropyl, rubbin Alcohol. That the right stuff?

As of right now there is basically no smoke commin outta the top.

What is "A and D"? What tube? Is it mounted properly?

    A = alchohol
    D = Dice

I think it's mounted correctly. Tube, Springs, MB, WAsher, wing nut.

Or should it be, Tube, MB, spring, washer, wing nut?

ok, I remounted, and temps have decreased to 1C on MB. So... I goes Tube, MB, washer, spring, wing.

Use 1 shot glass of liquid at most. More liquid=warmer temps. Mobo temps are not important, only CPU. Unless CPU is 1c? I'm assuming 71% alcohol is freezing over completely and not transfering heat very well. You need acetone.

Your mount is confusing. It goes like this:

stock back plate with 2 rods in it
    CPU tube on CPU
washer - spring - washer - wing tighten that down on the CPU tube hold down plate.

Are you using springs to pull the tube to the mobo? No no, you want springs pushign the holddown of the tube onto the cpu.

Ok, so I'm supposed to leave the backplate on? the tighten stuff is on the bottom of the block.

Starting from the top. The way I have it set up is

    Tube and base block
    CPU
    MB
    Washer
    Spring
    Wing nut

The way I had it was with the springs pushing the tube away from the board. Now it pulls it toward it.

So the way it is suposed to go is...?

    Tube
    CPU
    MB
    Backplate
    Washer
    spring
    washer
    nut?

So, next time I'm getting Acetone. And I guess I have waaay to much liquid in it.

Is the liquid supposed to boil?

On the topside, the 170 is good at 1C lol. And I hit 2.95 benchable instead of the 2.85 I had. I stopped at around 3.02 because of temps getting wierd.

Thanks for the help so far.

Please take a pic. Are you putting the springs behind the board? The springs are supposed to go on top of the tubes hold down plate. What tube is it?

Yes it's supposed to "boil" a bit at first.

The springs and stuff are on the bottom of the board. I got the Dice unit from Jason. I have to have the MB sit ontop of a box and have the bolts stick through the box. Pic's got everythin cep't the box.

Mousepot? Springs go ON TOP of the hold down plate not under the board.

Yeah, one of Mouse's pots. There aren't any holes in the top. When I got it that is the way it was. In fact there isn't even any room on top of it after the insulation. I'll take a pic of it after I find the camera, (after church tomorrow).

And yes I have used it like that.

Oh is it the 3" tube brazed one? That one you have to put springs on the bottom.

Yeah it's 3". I have insulation around the tube and that's it. Only frost I got was on the base. Maybe I got some faulty Dice lol!

Extera: Mine stick out the bottom of the board. Is 3" large?

And I did run it without anything in the tube and MB said it was at ambient. The chip had no increase of performace with it that way I'm inclined to believe the MB's temps.
