Does anyone really consider SuperPI to be relevant?

I mean, is that what you use a PC for? I game, so I care about gaming performance, not how fast my computer can do long division.

I see such a fascination with SuperPI here, which is odd as SUperPI performance has not much to do with real world performance.

Xtremesystems.org is about overclocking, tweaking, cooling and other HW related issues..

SuperPI, PiFast is two very used programs to describe CPU / RAM performance..

    01SE / AM3, CPU + GFX..

    03 = GFX only..

05 mostly gfx, but a bit CPU as well...

You've gone to the wrong forum if you dislike any of those benchmarks, cause, its T-H-E forum that's alot about benchies...

It's hard to believe that you posted 36 times at this forum and didn't see that it was an oc/benching forum. Did you think this was a gaming forum?
If I went to a gaming forum I would not expect to see superPI.

Dude, I have lurked here a long time. I was just curious as to what the fascination with a benchmark that really does not mean anything was.

If you tweak and mod a system to get better scores in something like 3Dmark, your system should then also be faster overall for things like gaming, or media encoding, etc...

I am not sure what SuperPI translates to. It stresses the FPU, but I am not sure how many real world apps are FPU dependant any more. Especially when it is only 1 kind of math being used.

A PC is the sum of it's parts, not just how fast it can copy a file to memory or divide an integer.

That's all I was wondering, why that *particular* benchmark...

superpi still works pretty well as a performence indicator, to you its just numbers wich are worthless, to people who use that bench a lot it gives them a good idea of how fast that pc was.

and just like sports, it doesnt really have much sense, its a competition thing.. does it make sense to run around a small scpae with two teams and try to throw a piece of leather into a basket on the other teams site of the room? imagine aliens visiting earth asking you wth those guys throw a piece of leather around and get so upset and excited about it

its all about fun... ad its not useless and senseless at all

It tells them how fast they were able to do that one math equation, that was my point. How well does that one extremely narrow function equate to actual useable performance and functionality?

My point was not "why do we bench?", it was more "why choose *that* old benchmark?"...
