Very good review! Serious approach, and very good point in using the delta as the decisive data. A lot of times in cooling reviews they use only final degrees without taking in account the ambient temps. Thanks!

    Very nice review man!

Just to point out a couple of mistakes (minor since they're just spelling): on page 4, first mention of the heatsink, you left out the 1 in HR-01. On page 7, you spelled sophisticated wrong

Besides that, again, very well done! (I wish I had your "sofisitcated" equipment for my testing )

Nice review, very well done, i loved the pics. U got your lighting and cam set up nicely . With regards to the flatness, did u try using this grid

    http://www.thermochill.com/guides/LappingGrid.pdf

In your pics i can see that the base seems not to be very flat, but I would really like to see you try this grid with the surface to see what it shows.

The grid came from this thread

    Flatness discussion

Hope u get a chance to test the grid

    Love that thermalcouple ihs mod!

I thought the duct was for intake, not exhaust.

I don't think that's the way to test passive performance of this heatsink (see attachment). I'd like to see the fanless test with the motherboard mounted vertically as in a case. Especially, with the board in a case AND with the duct leading air in from below the HS.

There are a few typo's, mispellings and gramatical errors (pm me if interested) but good flow and style.

I will do the grid, but I have since tried to lap the base (only briefly until I gave up as the sides were too high) and therefore it wont give a 100% true to the orgional reading.

But thanks for the link to the flatness thing. I will have to use that. Its not as good as the method that niksub1 mentioned (a fellow tester is trying to get his hands on a setup like that) but it works pretty well in a pinch so long as the block is relatively reflective.

Tinker, the duct is indeed for exhaust. You pull air through it and push it out the back of the case. (that was the idea anyway)

I know it wasnt the optimum way to test a passive sink, but in order to keep everything equal thats the way it needed to be tested.

If I were to test the fanless in a case again, the results would totaly be useless as the other tests were not done that way. And no offense, but I'm not about to spend an entire night doing that again and tearing apart my rig just to fit this cooler in a case.

Also you say with the duct leading ai in from the blow the HS.. no case on the face of the earth exists that does that.. none.. so thats a moot point.

oh and to everyone. Yes I know there are a few spellling/gramatical errors. If someone wants to they can PM them to me and I will get them to Charles (FUGGER) to have them fixed.

Awesome review. I like the layout. If you have the time it would be nice to add different fan CFMs to the review to make it more complete.

Also, thats not a generic PSU . That looks like a rebranded FSP (fortron) power supply, which are good PSUs IMO.

I stand corrected (why did I think it was for intake?):

I should also point out that you really cant tell flatness from looking at the pictures in the review. The pictures there were to show the edges around the base getting in the way of the cooling surface if the heatsink needed to be turned.

I just tried the ghetto flatness test and I ran into a big problem.. the HR-01's base isnt reflectiv enough to really get a good picture on it. BUT from what I could see it didnt seem to distort the image.

I stuck with the Yate-Loon because this is supposed to be a quiet heatsink. I could have added a 100CFM Denki, but that would have been rahter pointless.

the PSU says its a Power Man. It came with some generic case.

Studying gone to my head?? I dont get it.

EDIT: One thing I should have probably mentioned in the review. It seems this heatsink was designed for 775 CPU's more than 939 as the the duct works fine with 775 boards in alot of cases, but is a total pain to use with nearly any 939/754 board.
