Any Mods for the Gigabyte P965 "DS3" Boards?

this is a cool little board, but it definatly needs alittle push, if you want to make it really extreme for benching.
its kinda lacking on the Vdimm and Chipset voltages...

also its got the Droop problem, just like any other Intel board does.

I can post tons of pics of the board if anyones interested.

I just did about an hours worth of testing to find the VFSB, VDIMM and VGMCH Voltage read points.

testing was done, by just probing each voltage, to find the closest one to what I knew they were suppose to be... then seeing if changing the voltage in BIOS, changed the reported voltages.
a hour of trial and error and I believe I found the 3 main voltage read points.

    Vdimm.

    VFSB.

    VGMCH.

I have about a dozen more shots if these aren't good enough.
I do not have a macro lense, so this is the best I can do for close ups at the moment.

    nope.
I wasn't even remotly curious for a Vcore read point...
my fan and heatsink, make that area near impossible to get to with a volt meter, when the PC is on....

kunaak, that MCH LD7120 chip, pin 6 resistance? VR to ground shd work.

the LD7120 chip below dimm slots should be for Southbridge i think.

The RT9199, near dimm, resistance of pin 3? VR to ground shd work, for ddr2 volts.

can you highlight the pins you want me to check?

I am not sure what you mean, when you say pin 3 and such...

    Found the VDimm Mod.

    And the Chipset Mod.

    Thanks Shamino

now any ideas on the Vdroop or VFSB?

Vdroop is what I am more interested in.
set 1.4 volts in bios, get 1.34 volts under load... not cool.

Heres some more pics to help try and find a VDroop or VFSB mod...

    Hope this helps.

I can do more, if some area catchs your attention or needs more detail.

if the pic is too small when you check it out, click on the actual pic.
if it takes you to its load page, then just go back, and then the pic will be its larger size.

Can someone tell me whats written on the chip I've circled please. Could someone also try to get a close up picture of the chip so I can try to trace where some of the traces go.

For the Vdroop mod a resistor needs to be connected between the 2 points I've marked. It looks like these points are going to be too small to solder to, so some alternative points will need to be used.

The traces connected to the 2 pins appear to disappear to other layers of the board, so it isn't possible to trace them from the picture, so someone with the board will need to find alternative points to use.

To find alternative points, set a multimeter to a low resistance range (should be 200 ohms on most multimeters). Put one probe on one of the pins on the Vcore regulator and use the other probe to check the resistance between the pin on the Vcore regulator and various resistors/capacitors surrounding the Vcore regulator. Once you find a point which has <1.5ohm resistance between the Vcore regulator pin and resistor/capacitor leg, the points are almost certainly connected and can be used as an alternative solder point.

Edit: can someone also check the resistance between the 2 pins please.
