    Athlon 64 Energy Efficient

Hi @ all boys ( and girls too ) !

I red an article about the newest AMD's cpu few months ago and now I'm going to make a low cost and watt config for a friend of mine , he must use internet, play multimedia and other not-play tasks ( probably must of the time all togheter, and so i was thinking to a simply 3500+ or 3800+x2 ).

I think this community is the most informed about all components so, please, any one know if this processors are already in commerce?
    what about the performance?

if someone have any council, i'll accept all ( for the config too )

Thanks @ all and sorry for my not-OC info

Performance overall you would be better of with the X2 for multitasking. I believe both the 3500+ and X2 3800+ chips are 35W parts. They don't overclock any better than any other chip from what I saw, but produce less heat and consume less power than any of the other A64's or X2's. For a non overclocker, it's worth the extra 30 bucks or so.

Aren't the EE models really expensive?

they call the 65watt ones the EE and they are about $50 more or so but the SFF (35watts) ones are about $400 at one place I saw it in stock. the 35watt ones don't seem very visable anywhere except for hardware reviewers.

if it's available at a decent price, the e6300 is rated the same TDP with moderately higher performance. motherboards are a bit pricier though unless you go for the craptastic ASROCK model which absolutely blows. given the fact you ant cheap though, you probably have the right idea in mind.

Much easier and cheaper solution indeed.

But if you dont mind me saying so, why even bother with being energy efficient? If youre doing relatively light tasks and are not into crunching or heavy gaming your idle watts are not that much apart from the regular CPU scenario anyway. Spending €100,- more on a CPU just isnt worth it then.

I do see why it seemed like a good idea to you though.

it isnt just about undervolting a normal one ...
yes, in the end it isnt much of a difference BUT:
it's the same like when the s939 Opterons, although there weren't sold different versions, there were differently performing chips too, in other words at the SAME frequency and voltage a EE version produces less heat but will most likely overclock lower ... TRUE

its your decision if it's worth it for you ... if CnQ is active, it won't make such a difference, and again also there's the option of undervolting ...

agian, in the end ... YOUR CHOICE
Sometimes a good slap in the face is all you need

    Bios my arss.....
I can fix this problem with a hardware mod....

Ok, so probably the best performing of an EE is when the cpu is full load ( 90+W vs. 65W ) and this config isn't projected for full load.. is an internet navigation and multimedia cpu.. so just a simply 3500+ or a 3800+X2 will be the best economic choice, wight?

thanks and sorry for my bad english
