In all these CPU-Z screenies, I see that the 4000+ are SH8-E5 Revision chips. I thought the 4000+ moved to SH8-E6? Forgive my ignorance, but I thought the revision denoted the memory controller as well, so maybe I'm way off on this... Thanks for any input on this.

nope, newarks have always been SH-E5.. basically the s754 version of DH-E4

(something makes me think SH = single channel, DH = dual channel )
Got a fan over those memory sticks? No? Well get to it before you kill them

Really? In a way, then I'm very happy to hear that. I always thought AMD realized the issue (finicky about timings and actual module size) with the E5 Memory controller, and wen't to E6 for the 4000+.

Thanks for the input Ozzi, and yes, I think you're right about the SH / DH thing, atleast it makes quite a bit of sense when you think about it.

    hehe, yeah

also, a lot of the "finickiness" that the memory controller has ended up being MAL/RP related from what i could tell. just make sure you have optimal values for them, and you should be good to go. i found that the 6/23 bios from dfi really helped out on the dfi nf3-250gb board. not sure if there's a newer one because both my newark and dfi are long gone now, haven't checked.

I'm sorry, what are MAL/RP values? Is that an actual timing in the bios I can change, and if so what are some good values for stability? Thanks Ozzi.

Does anyone want to buy my naked 3700+ Claw? I just bought a Raptor so I can't afford the Newark outright.

Thanks Ozzi. I know it's been a while since you've had this chip, but do you have any recommendations for those two timings? Although clocks are important to me, if I can get this thing to boot almost every time I'll be a very happy camper.

I'll probably fiddle around with those settings tonight to see what seems to work best...

    Thanks again.

hmm, it depends a lot on the fsb's your running.. i found that while i couldn't go tighter than the optimal setting, i couldn't boot up reliably too much looser either. maybe it's best to leave them on auto? i don't know

Yah my Newark 3700 was a nice chip too, I got 3G on her before I cracked the core with 90C

Mine just didnt like these dam Patriot (supposedly ce-6) at all..
I tried just about every dam setting under the sun to no avail, so she had to go to make room for the current X2

but she was fun while she lasted

Yeah, I'm set at 10ns for MAL and 7ns for Read Preamble...
I set MAL to 15ns and RP to 10, and the board would refuse to post. So, I then cleared CMOS, and set the MAL to 10 and RP to 5. With this setting I couldn't get past the "Detecting RAID Screen" and finally set RP to 7 which is allowing the board to boot. I've had these values set for about 3 months prior to testing different settings. So far it seems like they are the most stable.

    Thanks for the help.

usually around 6ns to 8ns will be optimal for MAL, with tighter being better for lower mhz..
RP, i haven't really found a good guideline for that, but 4.5ns - 6ns is a good range... more dependant on memory speed in my experience, but not always.

Hey Ozzi, just wanted to say thanks for the input about the MAL/RP timings. I've now set them to auto as they were just too sensitive of timings that one value off was the difference between stability and utter reboot/BSOD chaos.

I've now just set them to auto and the board seems to pick out really good values for it as stability is really good right now. Just wanted to thank you for the help, as I would've never known that those two timings were a large influence on my stability.

Although shentech is out of stock right now. They are offering the 3400+ Newark for $180.00 + s/h.

Hey guys, just recieved the TForce-6100 Board today, and I'm having trouble with my Newark. I can't get the Tforce to post with the newark however it will post with the E6 2800+ Sempron.

The newark is alive and well, becuase I plopped it right back into my DFI 250Gb and it booted up like a charm.

Are there any bios settings I should be aware of that could make this chippy not post? Thanks for any help guys.

EDIT: Alright, I just updated the bios on the 6100 to 2/07/06 bios from the shipped bios that was dated back in november of last year. Hopefully this will clear up the issue.

EDIT 2: Still no go. I've tried setting up the bios with the sempron for settings that would be more for what the newark would run, but I'm still not getting anywhere. No post beeps, just fans spin and LEDs on board light up...

EDIT 3: I notice in the BIOS that my Chipset or Northbridge voltage is at 1.13v-1.15v is that ample enough juice for this newark? What is it supposed to be running at again?

EDIT 4: Alright, I updated the BIOS to the latest one on the Taiwan site, and that allows my CPU to post.

One question for ya'll with this motherboard, can I run 1T Command Rate with 2x512 DIMMs on this motherboard? Thanks all.

    An question,

I too have been looking for a PCIE future home for this 4000+ Newark.
Has any newer strides been made to make the Epox 8NPA SLI more mobile friendly?

I can run a 1T rate for 1M runs with my TCCD, but I need to use a 2T rate for 32M runs and 3D benching.

I was originally gonna use the Epox SLI board, but last I checked it is still not compatable with mobile chips

You know I was going hit you with a PM as it looked as if you had all the moving parts coming together in your thread. Did you ever get a chance to boot it up?

I sold the epox before I got my PCI-E card. I looked in a bunch of forums and found a thread in which that board would not work with a mobile chip. I am pretty sure the problem has to do with voltage, the epox uses a wierd voltage selection, it uses the startup voltage + up to .3v. So the Newark will have a startup voltage of 1.1v which means that there is basically no room for overclocking because it will max out at 1.4v.

Metalman, What BIOS are you using? I'm using the cr51mb02.bst dated 12/13/05. This bios is compatible with the Newark, but I'm having restart problems. Everytime I restart the computer (except for when I F10 Exit the BIOS), the computer refuses to boot. I have to hard shut off the PC and then turn it back on from there. Anyone getting similar symptoms? Thanks all.

I've been looking at the Epox and these two...
    DFI NF4X INFINITY vs TForce-6100 Board...which one?
Is there any other board not mentioned here or about to be released that can run Newark's with a PCIE/SLI setup?
