    OCZ VX peformance 1x512

Ho hum, I've been looking at the Single stick and wondering if anyone has tested 1x512mb VX on K8N Neo2 Plat, would a single 512 stick yield higher 1:1 clocks than the 2x512mb or would it yeild slower clocks?

The single stick is in my price range and I might skip out on the Corsair XMS BH-5 that I can buy locally, and save my Mushkin "2-2-2 Special" BH-6 for this Athlon XP I have currently

yea don't get a single stick, if you want try and get some twinmos UTT which is available in 256 modules, that way you get the 512mb you wanted and still get dual channel, also its only 37$ a dimm.

I want to get the Single Stick because I know VX is speed binned and hand tested @ 240mhz HTT @ 2-2-2 timings, with the Twinmos its luck of the draw, the sticks will either peform like champs, or they peform like complete e, if any of the 3d01 gurus can post runs with a mild overclocked Winchester (2.5 - 2.6 ghz) and a single stick of VX w/ a Midrange card or ecq I'd really like to see what you get, and I would possibly buy another stick when my cash flow is higher, I'm trying to go A64 with what I can afford, and if anyone is selling some stuff shoot me a PM and I'd be looking to buy used tried and true componets,

    My list if anyones interested

3000 - 3200+ used Winchester w/ Retail cooling (Money doesnt allow me to get a high perf cooler ATM)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Plat
    OCZ DDR booster

I dont care if the componets have been run to hell and back, I'm just looking for the componets from people I can trust (Not saying the major retailers are bad, but some prices are really jacked up) I want tried and true componets for Socket 939, the memory is the first thing I'm looking for at the moment due to my AXP needing alittle speed boost so I can be happy instead of cursing to hell and back at it for not having enough memory, and this AXP I have will run like a champ @ 240mhz FSB w/ BH-6, My Mushkin BH-6 is good memory but I could possibly be selling it or trading it for some Corsair XMS BH-5 locally, I'm not trying to beg or be an arse about this whole ordeal, I realise that Single Channel loses performance but I want to be able to see what I can get with my budget ($450US) as I dont have a full time job, but a part time that I'm starting in a few weeks.

and if OCZ were to release some 2x256mb VX for the same price as the single 512 stick, I'd be one of the first in line to purchase it as I can trust them to have a good product.

    Jason,
Trust me here. There is absolutely NO plausible reason for you to get 1 x 512mB stick of ram for your system. Your memory bandwidth will be terrible. Just get a cheap set of TCCD 2 x 256mB sticks. Get yourself G.Skill PC4400 LE @ $130 for 2 sticks, and run your 3000+ at about 9 x 285, 1:1 @ 2.5-3-3-7
    http://www.excaliberpc.com/product_i...oducts_id=4243

9 x 285 = about 2600mHz, dual channel will be very fast.... stop trying to make everything SOOOO difficult.

    OR for that matter, keep your BH6 and run 9 x 285, 5:4 @ about DDR460, with BH6 about 3.3v.......

Right here on XS, get a Gigabyte Ultra 939 for $70 from PCICE.
    Get a 3200+ at Monarch $190
    Get the G.Skill at excaliberpc.com $130

    =$390

    ^^^ Charlie

So this Gksill TCCD I hear about is really good for very high HTT 1:1, 130$ doesnt sound that bad for something that doesnt require as much voltage to get to run at insanly high speeds, I'll use the search feature tommorow and see what else people have to say about their TCCD.

Thanks for your help, I do realise I can make stuff complicated at times, I think its because I have ADHD and my mind gets sidetracked and I have to rant about something, then something else.. eh, you guys get the picture.

About my BH-6 I dont think I wanna push it on an A64, since I have to get whats left of this PC to my dad( Mobo, CPU, Memory), and I dont think he wants to spend some extra bones to purchase another set of memory.

And Charlie, about the Gigabyte, what does it have to offer over the Neo2 Plat?

    Jason,
The Gigabyte is OK. It offers a real easy Vdimm mod, or works fine with OCZ booster. It runs just fine at 280-290HTT, and our member PCICE is selling one for $70, like new. This would allow you to get a 3200+ with it's 10x multi rather than the 9x 3000+.....
    Have fun here...and relax....

Charlie is right. Let's say the single stick of VX did 265 mhz in single channel. It still wouldn't match the performance of 2 sticks @ 240 in dual channel.
