The only prob with the A8V is the low vdimm, even with mods

Asus has voltage limiting thus Vmods don't help.

When the DFI mobo comes out to play the 939s scores will improve across the board including the NC ones.

Run some 3700 EB in it and you don't need to do a vdimm mod
It's a good board teamed up with the .21 bios.

When the DFI comes out, S754 scores will improve as well, look at OPPs score. So what's your point ?

my A8V is a real POS!!!

but he was probably defective....not stable at stock speed....tested with 3 cpu (2x3500+ and 1xFX53) and with Mushkin PC3500Level2...Corsair 3200llpt CH5 and OCZ 3700EB

i'll wait 2 or 3 week before RMA and got a rev 2

So do ALL A8V's have PCI/AGP locks with this new bios (even rev. 1?), or only certain revisions. Since Rev. 2 isn't avaible over here.

suppose to have locks on the rev 2.0 mobos

rev 1.02 should have locks but requires a Bios change(1005.21).

Only the 2.0 OFFICIALLY supports locks, but 1.2 has them if you use a BIOS that supports it.

I dont know if you got my PM, but the A8V you modded for me was DOA. Luckily, nothing else got fried. Maybe the vdd mod or someting. Let me know if you want it back to look it over

without a cpu its easy to get for instance 3.50v on the A8V. No post above 3.15v though with cpu though.
    btw looks great.

Hell-fire put a jumper on the mod to turn it off. I've tried it both ways, still no post. I'm sure the board is fried.

    Hey pkrew.

Sure thing man. Send her back to me. I have been so swamped with school projects that I havent had much time to check the forums here lately.

No problem bud, thanks for responding. I'll send it back and let you look at it. If you can fix it great, if not things happen. Take your time with it when you get it. Get your other priorities worked out first.

    Asus A8V Deluxe & Athlon 64 3500+

First off, I would like to say thanks so far. I stumbled upon XtremeSystems about a week ago, when searching for the best forums for overclocking, with a community that knows what they are talking about. While waiting for my activation, so I can post, I read hours and hours of topics on overclocking, some making me nervous, and some making me think "this shouldn't be too bad".

I buy a computer system once every 2 years to try to keep on top of things, and keep up on computer systems as much as I can. I run a part time home business from my home, building computers for people for an affordable price. The problem is, I have never dabbled in OC'ing, and see now its not about "click this, enable that, do this", but more a work of art, to achieve a balance between heat and performance. Even after a few days of research, I am still a bit scared to start the OC'ing. I have read the typical 'I burned my up!' all the way to 'it was fairly easy, smooth going, and machine runs great!'. I am hoping to fall in the middle somewhere

Before I start, let me give you guys a break down of equipment.

    My System

    Motherboard
    Asus A8V Deluxe

    Processor
    Athlon 64 3500+

    CPU Heatsink
    Ultra Vortex KCC-V91

    Memory
    Kingston 512MBx2 PC3200 (HyperX) DDR RAM - CL2 (1 gig)

    Hard Drives
    2x 36GB|WD 10K RPM WD360GD 8MB SATA

    Case
    Wave Master TAC-T01
(I only give case information, for airflow reason?)

I believe that’s all the information you need. If not, please tell me, and I will post it asap. I have NOT hooked this machine up, its all sitting in boxes at my feet, because I am waiting on my CPU cooler, that should be arriving Friday, but thought I would start my post now, so by then, I am armed with some information.

This post is just a standard "Help me, I am a newb" post, and I guess I am just trying to get some insite as to what I should do first. Am I starting in over my head? And if so, where does one start where the waters shallow! I am fairly computer friendly, I work full time at a Techbench fixing computers all day, and have been in the computer repair field for about 6 years now. I spend upwards of 8 hours a day on my computer, sometimes more, so know my way around. I just have not jumped into the OC'ing bandwagon yet, and with my new system, would really like some guidance to get there.

I'm sure I didn't post all the information I needed to, in that case, only ask, and Ill do my best to help you, help me

BTW, I have bookmarked this site, because they discuss similar things that I would like to do.

    http://www.digital-daily.com/motherb...us-a8v-deluxe/

I have also surfed through about the first 10 pages in the forums that come up under Asus A8V.

Where does a newb start! Even better, someone who has a similar setup, that would give me a basic walkthrough. Thank a ton guys,

    CamDog

There is some excellent info on overclocking the A8V here: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=332591

It's a forum thread that has all relevant information compiled in to the first post.

I guess you are a "newb", you spelled NooB wrong ;-)

The first thing I would do if I were you would be to confirm that your A8V is a revision 2.0 board. If you want to OC, you need a PCI/AGP on your motherboard that works. The lock on the rev. 2.0 is guaranteed to work.

    Things to consider:

1.) HTT frequency must not exceed 1000Mhz. For the 3500+, the "FSB- for sake of simplicity" is 200Mhz, the HTT multiplier is "5". 200 x 5 = 1000Mhz. If you increase the "FSB", ie- over 200Mhz, you need to use a HTT divider to return the HTT bus to < or = 1000Mhz. On the A8V, it's slightly confusing. In the bios, 1000Mhz=5, 800Mhz=4, 600Mhz=3, 400Mhz=2, 200Mhz=1. So if you used a "FSB" of 250Mhz, you would need to use the HTT setting of 800Mhz (250x4=1000).

2.) Memory- I use the 250 x 10 = 2500Mhz. My RAM is PC-3200, which means it was designed for the 200Mhz "FSB." using the 1:1 memory divider (ie, no divider) would run my memory at 250Mhz, which it won't do at the timings I would like it to run at. So I must use a memory divider. I'm on my laptop at the moment, so I can't tell you what divider I used (I think it wasd 5:3- I can't remember- but it is the next step down from 1:1)(but my RAM is running at 208Mhz at CAS2, 2-5-2-1T timings). Faster timings at a slower "FSB" is better (in most cases) than slower timings at a higher "FSB"

3.) voltages- crank up the mem voltage (to 2.8v anyway), I wouldn't go abobe 1.7v on the cpu with air-cooling.

4.) Use the PCI/AGP lock: ie- set it to 33/66Mhz.

Good luck- read that thread, it explains all of this in great detail and it's all in one place.

Wow, that post you linked is out of control to say the least. Thank you very much, as I will have a few hours of things to go over.

Also, your generic information on OC'ing my board is EXTREEMLY helpful! Ill come back and post a recap of what happens
