Soon, possibly tonight. I already laid out the cut file for the routher.

The bolt holes are 41mm apart and the closest is cap is 6.6mm from the CPU socket. Instead of moving the cap I will notch the foam to clear the cap.

I dont think this was mentioned before

All retail Dothans are unlocked, 2.0 755 for example has 6x ~ 20x available.

yeah it was somewhere along the lines, but it is a good reminder since that question seems to pop up

i think they all are unlocked from their actual factory set multiplier downwards.
    a 1.7 735 should be 17 and below, ...
i'm just curious why they went from 1.8 to 2.0. is 19x a bad sign or something?

anyway, that 26k 2k1 run was with default xt pe clocks, right?

I don't know...maybe Intel just wanted to use a nice round number? 19 shouldn't cause any trouble...I guess Intel just didn't want to use it

Intel has one main problem, here....
how are they going to push Intel Pentium 4 Desktop/Workstation LGA775 parts if all the hype is on a little mobile FSb400 part???
How can DELL sell a new rig with THESE spec's? Most peeps will think they've stepped backwards!

    Dell M7800 Desktop/Workstation

    Processore Intel 765 CPU @ 2.1gHz, 400FSB
Single channel Memory running at 166?

Most people will think that sucks.

    Here's MY radical idea:

Scrap P4 by the end of '05
Use Dothan/mod Dothan and dual core Dothan for everything!
    Dothan 533fsb 2M/Alviso for notebooks

Dothan 800fsb/onboard mem controller 2M for desktop

Later in '05 a Dual core Dothan......

Obviously, these things have NO pROBS at 2.5gHz with little or no cooling, so make a Dothan with default 1.4v and a real cooler @ 2.6gHz.....

Even use the lame 5xx series M Celerons for low line chips....

P4 is a LOSER for Intel.
    Just think about it,
    FX-57 at 2.8gHz, Winchester core.... that's mmmmmmmmm
    vs.
Dothan at 2.6gHz, 2M 800fsb, DUAL channel mem and HT

I order my DFI 855gme-mgf yesterday and my local retailor tracked it down today.
Should be here in 4-5 business days. Can't wait!~!
Going to throw this thing into a small cube setup.
So what chip should I go for? 715,725 or 735? Can't afford the 745 nor 755.

looks like they all max at about the same

I don't think they will, but they could use a p-rating system, just like AMD does with their a64 line

Intel can't make a dual core Dothan in that short period of time. They're working on dual core Prescott. The on die memory controller again is nice, but no way intel could pull that off. We would need another new socket, a new chipset, etc. So Intel probly won't be going that way (unless they want to see a huge drop in sales....)

That would be nice. 1.4v 2.5ghz with a real cooler. why 800mhz FSB? Intel lauched the 1066mhz I mean, they could go past that as well if they felt like it. just a thought. 4mb L2....drools

macci - update when u get the 735? i want to see if the 735 will clock better than your 715 @ 2435MHz

Anyone have an idea how an Intel Pentium M 733 Dothan Ultra Low Volt 1.1GHz 5W would overclock?

Already posted some stuff about that => here

Fugger, what ram and ram timings are you useing there?

Its fairly interesting to see that these dothans seem to max out at nearly the same clocks no matter what the original chip is [1.5G @ 2445(1.34V), 1.7G@ 2439 (1.34V), 2G @ 2505 (1.36V)]. so basically the only advantage a higher (and more expensive) chip gives is the higher multi (yes its advantage since the board FSB is somewhat limited).

cool fugger =), honestly, i can't help but check this thread every so often haha

do you peak out at the same FSB (lower multi) with those chips? if not, then maybe it's not the chipset/mobo since a 1.5@2.4 is 160FSB while the 2.0@2.4 is 120FSB. the 2.0 should give a nice OC at 160FSB *drools*.....but this is definitely good tip =)...i'm looking forward for the 1.7G hehehehe =)...do you think it's the best among the lot?

    Running OCZ TCCD 2x 512MB 2-2-2-5 3:5 a little over 200Mhz @ 125FSB

I can bench at most around 2.55Ghz with the stock heatsink.

My chip is a very old dothan, about six months old. SL7EM

do the newer dothans come with a different stepping, or is it stll sl7em, cause the ones i got offered are all either sl7em, sl7ep or sl7en. it might be they are old chips, who knows without seeing the production date.

Anyone considered watercooling with a peltier? A lot of the northbridge (or videocard) waterblocks out there should fit on the DFI, but is it possible to find peltiers smaller than 40x40 over 100watts?

by the way... I don't think theese boards are that bad in features - at least not the DFI. A 6300ESB southbrdige and one PCI-X (64bit/66MHz) slot is okay! targeting the demanding user or what? the only real PCI-X controllers are SCSI (and some crazy SATA controllers), but Promise's normal raid controllers support 32bit 33/66MHz PCI as well so it could be used for a more affordable kick ass harddisk setup. The question is just what speed the hublink between north- and southbridge is - if it's 266MB/s like ICH/ICH5 it's kind a useless so why should it be?

Anyone did some tests with the Dothan in FSB:RAM 1:1 - maybe it's like AthlonXP in a nForce 2 motherboard? asynchronous modes gives a huge performance penalty, but who knows?

Yeah, great point. A swiftech MCW-50t would be perfect for this little beauty...just rig up a mounting bracket...it runs off yer PSU.

charlie I think Siphilon is using the Aopen I855GMEM-LFS

Do you have to use a program to adjust the clock generator to overclock these motherboards or can you also do it through the bios?
Would overclocking using the bios yield better results?
Do the DFI and Aopen boards come with the clock generator program already?

Siphilon - Are you running your ram 1:1 or something else? Wut kind of ram r u using?
How did you get your voltage up to 1.4v,is the voltage adjustable in the bios? I thought I read somewhere that the vcore wuz locked on the DFI board. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe the Aopen's different.

Its intel CPU and intel chipset and useing 3:5 or 3:4 is clearly the better option (just like w/ i845PE for instance).

    Very nice FSB there Siphilon!
And as you can see from his pic (setFSB) its running 180 1:1 (180FSB/360mem). How far does it go w/ 3:4 or 3:5 divider?

Just got the AOpen board and 1.8G CPU. Also got my old Duron copper waterblock + 156W pelt available if needed

    Well,
I just made the plunge and bought a DFI 855GME....
    Didn't get a processor, though...
Can someone PLEASE educate me on the current state of Dothan flavors?
I know MACCI said the performance from 1.5-2.1 is NEARLY the same...that's cool. But what about the 533FSB parts? Are they in the pipeline yet? Are they any better than the 400FSB pieces???

MACCI, or someone with the DFI, can you measure "clear area" around socket, so I can pick up a chunk of copper for another DI rig.....

    tia!
