so everything is on the same level - its not soo elastic - its just enough to get pushed down if taller than the chip - its not meant to support the cooler - its meant to prevent to cooler for tilting. Flamable? - i wouldnt know - but there are no circuits on the top side of the pcb - i just use neoprene cause it came with my waterblock

Ah, so this is like with the early Athlons without the pads on the CPU to support the cooler, where it was easy to accidently crush the core die if you didn't install the heatsink properly? In that case, would that basically be what I should aim for? Would be good that was the case, as that's pretty easy to setup. Thanks for pointers!

PCI locks work on the DFI right - cause my TV tuner does not like oced PCI bus - my vid card doesnt mind though - go nVidia

cant seem to boot at above FSB147...

in windows i can change it as high as FSB176 so far

i can get audio to work up to 133MHz - padding? - there is no padding - u need to provide ur own - i dunno about either stock cooler - maybe it comes with that but DFI didnt gimme one

I was at the DFI Disty today and they are dumbfounded that there is no HSF. They said they would need a week or two so that DFI in Taiwan can HOPEFULLY add a HSF to their next shipment.

Looks like watercooling is doing a good job though

that screeny was of a dothan with a 3:4; didnt have time to switch to the cpu page - u know how sometimes it spikes with errors for like a second.

wohooo my aopen finally arrived, so now charlies dothan and my board can finally mate... . first impression so far, the dothan needs plenty of tim. first time i tried it, i put a thin layer of as5 on the chip and put the heatsink & fan combo atop...weird, the heatsink can tilt a bit sideways??? not supposed to be like that, i guess.
anyway, time for a testrun. immediately on entering the bios, the coretemp shot through the ceiling. at first i thought the darn board can't handle the 755, but then i took it all off. removed the hs and checked the underside. well there was some spatter of as5 on the sink, just not every part of the chip left its impression. wtf? i had put a somewhat slightly thicker layer of as5 on there than i usually do with my athlons (well, i figured it was time to add some more). oh and while i was at it, i tried finding the reason for the tilting heatsink. well i didn't completely get rid of it, but it seems the screws of the retention module weren't tightened equally, so i got my screwdriver and went at them, same for the socket-locking screw. well, contact is better now, still some tilting, but that's where the "cooler fixing sticks" (that's written in the manual! lol) come in. once they're on, the heatsink is locked in place - well it was the same before, but this times the temps were a good deal below 30°C (26°C iirc).
anyway... i justed wanted to get the dothan in business, so i had ripped the harddrive and my 6800gt out of my current main rig and hooked them to the aopen (well the hdd remained in my main rig and just got her cable plugged into the aopen ). on the hdd were 2x xp prof (game & bench 2k3, 2k5, am3) and 1x 2k (bench 2k1). i didn't expect anything big of an old install without using fitting mobo & cpu-drivers but i was nevertheless able to beat my best super pi 1m score (xpm @3.069ghz @230fsb) at an easy 2.3ghz, lol. on to 2k1... and here something weird happened. some scores were brilliantly fast (never saw +500 fps in car low before, same with +400 in lobby low) others were just slow. drago low for instance seemed about 100 fps lower at times, nature lacked more like 60-80fps depending on the scene. oh well... guess next time i run, i install drivers, but for that quick test i didn't want to ruin my old bench-setup (btw, you may laugh at me now )
there's two things i noted about this dothan platform:
a) it's unbelievably quiet (except for that 6800gt fan, that probably has to be replaced with some big copper cpu heatsink)
b) my powersupply went chirping once i started the rig. have to try it on the ocz - it is NOT the board (as i've read in some tests before, it is the psu!).

ps: my regular xpm 2k1 runs now show the same performance drop as with the dothan - guess i farked up the install ,)

update. argh, i hate my aopen. guess my usual luck with mainboards hit me again. 140 fsb is max without mods. and that's already using 44/88 divider... wahaha. real stable is somewhere in the proximity of 135-138, 3:4 - anything else needs more vdimm than the stock board offers. oh my oh my... everything was looking so damn cool. 2505 mhz at stock voltage, 2666 at 133x20,0 with slightly raised vcore (did the socketmod to 1.596v)... and than fsb-crappola... <weeps>
guess i'll have to do the vdimm mod and have to go looking for the vagp/vchipset mod. this biatch is holding me back seriously! anyone that knows that vagp-mod for the aopen, feel free to post!

mines at 177MHz atm (running uncooled on a 6x multi 0.84V)

its doing under 50C load - most cpus wont even run w/o a hsf - dang its good

48C atm @ 177*6

Just picked up a 1.5ghz Banias chip off Ebay for £10, do you think I will be able to get it over 2.0ghz in the Aopen mobo? At 133mhz FSB I should be hitting 2.0ghz, but will the clocks be locked still and will audio and sata still work or do you think it will be unstable? Got some Twinmos ram that will happily run at 240mhz 2.5 6--3-3 at 2.6v. I also have another 1.3ghz Banias chip as well but I selling that to a friend this week for £35!

Still in 2 minds about getting the Aopen board due to its high cost.

You have to remember that the Banias is on old .13 tech - the Banias is actually doing well to make it to 2ghz. Think about pushing a Tualatin PIII to 2ghz - chances are, you won't make it.

vcore is easy, just do the socket-mod with a tiny copper bracket. works on both mobos...
anyway, my aopen is going back tomorrow. all i get now is a long beeep, a second or two silence, another long beep, etc... fans and all spinning, no signal on my crt using either onboard gfx or agp-card. replaced the ram sticks (2x256 mushkin pc3500l2 bh5 with 2x512 khx3200 bh5) no go. used single sticks - also nothing. put those sticks in another rig (the one i'm using right now)... no problem. i don't know what's up. i just hope the cpu is still alive, after all everything was working the night before, until i shut the sys down. now it's only that one single beep (imo ram / ramsocket). cmos clear, pressing "home" on boot and even removing the battery did nothing.
