12V drop too much for OC?

I won't bother mentioning the brand of my 400W PSU so no one will laugh

Anyway, I've OC'ed before, but am really trying to get further with my latest toy, K8NHA-grand, and a Sempron 3100 I've got at 2336mhz/260fsb, running stable in everything.

When I run 3DMark05, the 12V rail drops to 11.85 under load (a .15v drop from normal 12.00v), measured with a DVM at the drive connector. MBM reports going from idle 11.65v to load 11.49v.

When I go up to about 267FSB, I start getting errors on Prime95 and 3DMark05 hangs. Is this too much of a drop, and is the 12v rail too low to begin with?

Ahhhhh and then I'm running a 6800gt@400/1100 on top of all this, so maybe time for a new PS anyway huh?

11.85V is borderline reasonable, in my opinion, be it at idle or under load. 11.49V to 11.65V is not acceptable. I try to keep my rails within +/- 0.05V.

I'd say it's definitely time for a better PSU.

Could you recommend an inexpensive PS that's more stable than my 400W Alliance PS? I'm not looking to break the bank

This is a good power supply that I would recommend for less than $60.00.
