makes sence... a 2.6ghz chip in 130nm produces around 100W of heat. in 90nm probably 60W. so two 1.3ghz cpus in 90nm would produce 60W as well, with the same vcore!
current cg stepping a64s clock themselves to 1000mhz with 1.1v in idle when you enable cool n quiet afaik and reduce their power consumption to 25W
i guess we will see dual core chips clocked to around 1.5ghz+ for each core. they should perform pretty much as well as one 3ghz a64 if the apps are optimzied for multithreading that is... if not then it will be as fast as a 2.6ghz a64 i guess, still pretty fast.
i wonder if they will change clockspeeds according to what apps we are using. so if the app supports multithreadding both cores run at full speed, if it doesnt maybe once core clocks down to 1ghz or less and the other one clocks up to 2ghz? should be possible and be quite usefull for apps that dont support multithreading no?
So.....
Dual cores - Dual VGAs etc.... ===== 4 X more Cost for a dreaming system....
This future COST a lot....

hehhee depends!
a dual core cpu will cost more, but you can pick up cheap cards and run them sli
one 6800gt now, and another 6800gt in one year, wich will be cheaper than buying one geforce 6999 Ultra extreme in one year
I'm late but I will say it anyway

WOW.. this week completely shocked me.
I mean, all the work that macci or OPPainter put into with cascades just to get to 3.0GHz... I guess these WR just dont stand like they used it. And good thing AMD provides multipliers all the way up to 25
And to think, there were doubters that 130nm could handle it...

This is nice progression of the FX core... my CaaBC 0412 went 3441mHz on DI. This FX is a newer nicer stepping getting ready for fx-55... not a surprise that -100C would produce 3600mHz....

First of all, I dont think: PowerOutput(2.6Ghz) = PowerOutput(2x1.3Ghz)Originally Posted by saaya
The clock cycles in the 2.6Ghz, will always be used for something. Whereas, there are few multi-threaded apps consumers use. If I had a choice of getting the 2x1.3Ghz vs 2.6Ghz, I would choose the 2.6GHz anyday.
AMD is a very clever company. The Cool'n Quiet technology is so simple, easy and effective. It would be pretty nifty if AMD was able to clock down, or even put in standby the 2nd processor core, when its not being used.
But, realistically, I don't see Dual-Cores as a good option for consumers. Although, the Server market will eat it up like mad. For consumer market, AMD should concentrate on pushing out volume, making s939 avaiable to the masses. Second, on priority list, is clockspeed (gotta poke at Intel now and then). Dual Cores, trendy acronyms like SSE3, and DDR2 are a distant third on priority list.

Well actually dual cores on the desktop is definitly a good thing. You see all the consoles, and I do mean all, are going multicore. The PS2 is already multicore to a degree. So having multicore on the PC makes sense, because most games are already going to be hevily multithreaded on account of most people wanting to port them to consoles. Since computer games are the number one reason people buy faster computers, dual/multicore I'm sure will find great acceptance and usage.

PS2 multi-core... hmm...
Guess I remembered it wrong.
I guess I was all wrong then.
So, please name a handfull of

some pi benches:
this board is realy bad on v-core :S this cpu can do 3.5 easy on superpi on asus a8v becouse it goes nice to 1.95v, with gigabyte its hard to get better than 3.45 @ the best of 1.8v :S
