alright I have a very stupid question. In AI boost you raise the cpu clock, that I understand, What is the cpu clock called in BIOS? spp<->mcpRefclock?
I tried raising the multiplier to 10 it won't take guess it's locked? E8400.

What do you mean entered a number into the CMOS?

    H guys,

Could someone give me some info on getting my Quad to around 3.2Ghz using an 8x Multi? I don't want super high overclocks as i'll be picking up a Q9550 at some point. See system in sig. Thanks.

What do I raise in BIOS to act like the cpu clock in AI boost, is it the FSB speed 1333, does that back into the cpu clock speed?

OK, first overclocking is not complicated but you still have to do some reading on the subject; have you read some introductory guides? Here's a few good ones:

    http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...&enterthread=y

    http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...beginners.html

    http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...s-p5k-add.html

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=115765

But anyways here's a quick guide to get you up and running. First of all you need to keep in mind:

CPU clock freq. = FSB (front side bus) x multiplier.

For all but the xtreme editions of C2D/C2Q, the multiplier is locked, usually above 9 (like with E8400), depending on the processor. This means that if you want to overclock the CPU freq., you need to raise the front side bus. E.g. for 3600MHz you want to raise FSB to 400 which gives 400*9=3600. Alternatively, you can use 450*8 but in general overclocking gets harder and harder the higher the FSB becomes (especially with the striker ii lol!). Hence, it is easier to OC extreme edition CPUs as you can keep the FSB lower and instead raise the multiplier above 9, but you also pay a massive price premium for this!

Actually, as the FSB for C2D/C2Q CPUs is "quad-pumped" (QDR), the actual front side bus clock in the BIOS is sometimes listed as 4*FSB i.e for FSB 400 you actually need to enter FSB (QDR) = 1600 MHz in the striker ii bios.

You do this under "extreme tweaker"; first set "ai overclock tuner" to manual. Then enter "FSB and memory config" and set the desired FSB (QDR).

For FSB (QDR) = 1333 as you mention, you get a CPU freq. of 3000MHz if you leave the multiplier alone (default=9). Get it?

You also have to set the memory clock, and i recommend if you are a beginner you set this independent from the FSB i.e. use "unlinked" then choose the native clock frequency of your memory, e.g. 1066MHz for DDR2-8500.

You can also set the memory timings (and also CPU multiplier) under "overclocking". Either set the default memory timings e.g. 5-5-5-12 (as listed by your memory manufacturer) or if you are unsure just set to "auto". As for the "command per clock" it's probably best to leave this one to auto. The advanced memory timings are better left alone except for advanced users...

There is more - much more! Hope this helps clarify things a little. Read through some of these guides then if you still have issues post them here. Good luck!

Thanks Polar Bear, Crystal clear, I was confused with the fsb (QDR) = 1333 which makes sense. CPU clock in AI bios is 333 = 333x4 = 1333fsb(QDR) or 333 x 9 for 3ghz cpu clock speed. You also explained why my multiplier is locked. I'm good to go now. I want a modest overclock where I don't have to do much with voltages. I will wait for a faster processor when the prices drop a bit. Thanks West side for the memory timings, they worked with no modifications to voltages necessary. Guess I could push them a bit since I am not going as high as you did with the frequency. The guides are a great help.

Great. I guess to reach 3000 you should be able to leave all voltage settings on auto. As you go higher you often have to bother with only Vcore and V_NB. I know that every chip is different, but I have my E6600 stable at 3600 (400*9) with all voltages to auto.

The monitor anything you want. Because you hook up temp sensors to them, and then place them wherever.

But unlike with the Maximus Extreme, the actual sensors are not supplied...

I've been having a lot of crashes in 3D lately, both with SLI and non SLI. And regardless of if I increase volts, or decrease clocks.

    Passes orthos no problem though.

Could be driver-related. I had lots of odd artifacts and also random lockups running games/3D applications with the 171.16_beta drivers - even with the Vista "energy" screensaver I got glitches. This all resolved when I rolled back to 169.25. Can you complete 3DMark?

Nope, not driver related. When I set fsb = 1333, all's good. Can up the multi's to whatever, and it's still good.
When I venture up the slightest bit in fsb, orthos/prime95 pass, 3D games and benchies freeze/crash/reboot.

The new DDR3 version of this board, Striker Extreme, seems very good , FUGGER is hitting 600+ MHz on FSB with Wolfdale.

Hi guys. New to this forums.. anybody here on a conroe? This is the best I do with this board:

Ive tried 0101 and 0902. Both have the same outcome with the procie.

Processor may have a bad yield.. used it on a striker extreme before, and does not go pass 3.9Ghz.. Temps are a sound 35 on idle, 63 on load on that board. I get the same outcome with the Striker II Formula.. Can get a higher FSB on the board though.. Ive topped 475MHz FSB on it @ x6.

Imo, wasnt a good move to go Striker 2 Formula from Striker X. 3dmarks are better on it though.. about 200pts better. not worth it.

Also can I ask if anybody here knows where can I find the option in which I can enable hardware mode for the onboard NIC? I cant seem to find it in nVidia cp.. I had that option before when I was on a Striker X.. Im on XP SP2 btw, with current updates.

475MHz FSB is not bad on this board. IMO this board is mainly for 45nm support as there are not many other updates compared to Striker Extreme.

    Btw... to XS!

Hey guys. I pointed this forum out to a guy having troubles, and here is his story. Maybe you can give some insights at what could be wrong.
    --------------------------------------------------------------

All games that I have installed (for example Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes OF, UT3, Bioshock...) crash after I have played 5-40 minutes. Windows doesn't give any reasons why this happens. I have tried the following to solve this, none of them have helped:

    - I have updated my drivers
    - I have checked if there was a BIOS update, there wasn't
    - I have tried both XP Pro and Vista Ultimate (both 32bit), same problem occures in both
    of them
    - I have tried disabling SLI
    - I have removed 2GB of my RAM (I have total of 4GB)
    - I have tried completely different RAM
    - I have tried to use only one graphics card ( I have done this with both cards)
    - I unplugged my somehow broken sound card (Supreme FX II, it makes random noises)
because someone at the SLI Forum said that the sound card was the reason for crashing
    - When I was using Vista I downloaded all the hotfixes for SLI
    - I have run Memtest (although I know it's not the memory since I had the same problem
    with completely different RAM)
    - I got about 16200 points in the 3DMark06, which sounds about right
    - I have run the NVIDIA stability test with no problems
    - I have also tried to put my RAM to different slots on the MB
    - I have formatted my PC and reinstalled XP (that's what I'm currently using)

My temps are under load (these are only estimates): MB: 40-45C, CPU 35-45C, GPU1:65C and GPU2: 60C
I haven't overclocked anything and I haven't changed the BIOS settings (except the usual ones such as time, boot order and so on).
My little head can't figure out any other reason than a faulty motherboard. Is there any other thing that could cause this?

    My current configuration:
    QX9650 + Zalman CNPS9700-cooler
    ASUS Striker II Formula
    2x EVGA 8800GTS G92 in SLI
    4GB G.Skill DDR2 800MHz 4-4-4-12
    Thermaltake ToughPower 1000W PSU
2x WD Raptor 150GB + WD Caviar 500GB (no RAID)
