    Bios Revs 1504, 1506, & 1601

Has anyone done any testing/benching with these newly released bios revisions?

Well I updated to the 1601 BIOS and now all the settings I used to use won't work It would not let me overclock at all unless I set it to auto so i have to do more testing and figure out how to get it to let me set it manually, But it does let me OC a bit higher I'm at 3500 MHz and CPUZ won't read it right either so I have my work cut for me to figure these new BIOS out.

I was using 1504 BIOS for a week. And in my opinion, this BIOS was surely buggy.

I was OCing my Q6600 to 3Ghz at 1,275v. It's stable and rock solid under Prime95 small FFT's load in hours. So I intended to stick to this setting for daily use. But sadly after few days, the system just crashed in random events, from BSOD, hang, self restart, etc. When I restarted it, the problem would be worse, on boot screen it just crashed again and again. So, I had to resetting the BIOS.
I had tried all possible setting that may fix the problem, but it persist! On prime95 test, it's rock solid, but after few days, it crashed again.

Feel curious about this, I let my system running at standard setting but it also crashed!
I then realized that this was a BIOS faulty. The other fault that could be seen directly was the LCD poster which always ON (and blinking) in Windows although I had set it to DISABLED in BIOS.
I wanna tell you to just stay away from 1504 BIOS permanently!

Now, I'm using 1601 BIOS, and the LCD poster problem is gone. My standard setting is also working fine, at least till now. But I haven't tried OCing again with this new BIOS.
I truly hope that this new BIOS can solve all my problems that occur on 1504 BIOS.

We'll see about that real soon...

Well after a week of the 1601 BIOS I can say I now like them a whole lot more, At first I had a hell of a time getting the thing to boot right and it would not over clock at all, so I set everything to auto and went from there and now My over clock is higher. I have it dailed in and I can run stable at 395 FSB where as before the max I could boot at was around 390 FSB and I have booted at 405 FBS now, so I'm liking it, but at first it through me for a loop on all my settings.

I am too using 1601 bios. So far it's working fine at 525FSB with an E6600 running at 4.2Ghz (Not on air or water). One thing to note is that I am not running this at 24/7, only for average gaming of 5 hours per day.

Now after more than a week using this 1601 BIOS, I surely can say that this BIOS is great and rock stable. My problems before are story of the past now.
    Thanks to Asus engineers.

But still... The problem about LCD which is still ON in Windows still remains the same. I then realize that the LCD is ON when I run diagnostic program like CPU-Z or Everest, otherwise the LCD will remain OFF.
I wonder if this small problem is a normal thing or still missed by Asus engineers?

Does this mainboard do good with the QX6700ES? Is there some specific bios you need installed? Read something about it require a 1333 bus speed which the commando don´t have?

I've got some issues reaching 3.6GHz on an E6600 on this mainboard. Not sure if it's mainboard related or chip related. Anyway the whole write up is here:

Do you guys think the next gen 9800GT which supports pci-e 2.0 will work with the Asus Commando Mobo which is PCI-e 1.0a? Im sure hoping it will be compatible... And if so do you think 650W antec True Power will be suffecient it only has the 2 of the 6plug power connectors.

    Thanks in advance guys!

So far this motherboard is running smooth and not its supports the 45nm but why they didn't add PCI-E is beyond me since this motherboard came out in 2007 and PCI-E 2.0 came out in December of 2006. Atleast the 680i has PCI-E 1.1 which is more compatible...

The commandos Do have the 1333 support now. Check it out, its supports the 45nm CPUs coming out now too.

Only draw back is that the PCI-E slots are 1.0a but I think it might be fine for 2.0 cards as long as you don't try to crossfire PCI-E 2.0 cards. Also PCI-E has twice the bandwidth and power going to them. theres also 1.1 which can crossfire 2.0 cards but still doesn't have the bandwidth. Not sure whether the 1.1 cards have the power though.
