The manufacturers are very comfortable with the chipset now and the next wave of boards should show additional maturity in their designs. Of course, this comes right before the launch of BearLake in the spring so if you are currently using Intel be prepared for more growing pains with this new release.

Asus are working the vdroop AFAIK

funny how Intel's own D975XBX can get away with much tighter droop on vcore with their enhance power slope option and restrict other board manufacturers to a higher droop ??

    These are great news!

However if u skip the fact that P5B sets actual vcore about 0.5-0.6v lower that selected bios value, the idle/load drop is better than most of the asus 775 boards i've had.

yeah my P5B-Del has hardly any droop at all. the WS pro from my understanding has no droop at all.

If there really is trade agreements with intel why is asus violating them on some boards and not the others?

also, about vdroop. Does any one know the technical reasons for it? I just dont understand why intel would want vdroop.

Ya I e-mailed Intel About this got automated reply. Got a second reply that said they would put an engineer on my question as I asked them why they would do this and I told them I would put a technical reply on this Forum . Can't wait to get the reply. Seems Intel does care about us .

My P5B-E plus has serious drop .. set 1.7 in bios .. end up 1.57 in window.. when orthos drop to 1.47 .. that is a huge lost.. 0.23 drop in total ..

    #Turtle 1
thanks dude.. hope the intel rep will get back to you with reasonable answer .. i know solder helps but it void the warranty and no more re-sale value in the MB it self.

First, what you define is not vdroop. Vdroop is when you have a multimeter hooked up to your vcore and the cpu voltage drops under load. what you set in bios and what windows reads doesnt make a difference. you could say you have .1v of droop maybe but you arent reading from a multimeter so you cant know for sure.

Second, the P5B-E Plus has 4 phase power circuit, the p5b-del has 8, so its not surprising if the del version handles droop better.

Third, where did you get that P5B-E plus!?

If this realy is the ultimate overclocking board I'll buy it.
In my eye's, that means up to 600fsb on multi 9

maby then i'll get the maximum out of my E66

now i know wat is Vcore drop. So the fluctuation in the reading is due to the software right??

I got it from the reatial shops in singapore .. this MB has been selling here for few weeks. BTW the one i got is C1 rev.

The Only 2 boards I have used my fluke on were the IC7 max 3 and the Asus I use the Dothan with. I modded the Asus board and on the ic7 max I used the OCZ memory booster. I didn't test my wife's badaxe as it runs perfectly at the O/C she is using. The OCZ booster did not play well with the IC7 max 3 . So I switched boards. I am going to reinstall the max as soon as the new NB fan arrives and I will modd the memory for more V. I want to get 6000+ in pcmark 04 with this. My 5700 points in hardware bot is 4.8 points I would like to increase that. Besides some guy with a similar system got 5720 points First time its ever been beaten with similar system.

3rd E-mail reply from Intel not recieved yet.

    This is From AT article.
Also, we were told that motherboard requirements for the Quad Core series of processors have been clarified and to some degree "tightened" up by new Intel specifications. This is another reason why generation two P965 and generation three 975X boards will be introduced shortly.

In the meantime we had an opportunity to play with the new ASUS P965 Commando board that is designed for serious overclocking. We were able to reach a benchmark stable overclocked of up to 550FSB with 4GB of OCZ Flex XLC memory at DDR2-1100 (5-5-5-12) on 2.15V with a Intel X6800 processor. This motherboard series should launch in early January and we will have additional specifications available shortly.

Well I been following the RD600 thread. and a little on the 680i.

Since Commando is said to hit high FSB and has 2x8 pci-e slots. And revisions have been made to M/B makers to tighten things up on the Intel M/Bs. Plus the fact that the RD600 is 3 x 8pci-e slots instead of the 3x16 pci-e slots. It looks like the second generation of 965 chipsets and 3rd generation of 975 chipset may be worth waiting on . Jan release.

Ya I read that in your post in the news section . I thought I read the specs as saying 1066 800 533 supported. Or did I miss read that.

Could you please link to a M/B that supports 1066 DDR2 dual channel memory. we won't see that for awhile . @ 1:1 that would be what 2132fsb.

Looks like a great choice for the lower clocked q cores when their released.

Hell it looks to be a great choice for all the C2D based cores.
