Good find on the buzz above. Anyone else fixed it via this pint since seeing the post above?

liquid silicon is second best, if a bit messy
I had the buzzing problem too but fixed it by twisting the coil under full load until it stopped buzzing. Not the best approach but it worked, haven't heard a buzz since then.

You must be mistaking this forum for a support forum. It's not. Here people share info WHEN and IF they have the time and/or want to.

Hi, I registered to post this as I have been following this thread.

I do believe I have the buzzing issue with the Asus Commando (I get a high-pitched buzz when I run something CPU-intensive), but I don't have ANY hw-modding experience. If I could be so bold as to request a small guide on how to apply the rubber substance that wazoo99 mentioned or the tightening that FreeRider mentioned (how do I tighten this coil thing?).

What seems to be happening is that the coil of wire is vibrating at some harmonic of the freiquency in the core. All you need do is coat the coil (wire) and basically glue it to the core with a non conducting material such as clear acrillic nail polish. This seems to keep the vibration from starting and therefore no buzz. The other method that has been mentioned is to slightly twist the choke assemble as this wiol tighten the wires slightly and also keep the vibration from starting.

    Commando issues

My Commando doesnt have that coil harmonics. Although its pretty common, my older Intel D875PBZ motherboard had the same noise under high stress situations.. its normal but annoying and yea just use hot glue to shut its damn mouth!!

BTW, just to mention again, this Commando board doesnt run properly in dual channel mode with Corsair XMS 1GB sticks (CM2X1024-6400) 5-5-5-12

It hangs very quickly in bootup, if i increase the voltage from 1.9v to 1.75 volts it lasts a little longer but hangs again.. this is with 702 bios as well. They better come out with a fix in the next bios! PIssing me off because this same ram worked fine in the Asus P5B-D

I've been waiting a couple days for you guys to post some oc results or findings about the boards quirks and all i keep seeing are posts about the board buzzing.

If your board buzzes rma it. If it doesnt do a dance and tell me how it overclocks.

This is the best i've been able to do so far. I stopped orthos at this point because the nb sink was pretty hot. I tried it with stock nb volts and orthos failed after about 2 hours. I know it was mentioned a couple weeks ago but the vdroop is awful and one of the main reasons i hated my P5B-Deluxe.

Has anybody removed the stock nb sink yet and if so what did you do about the digital pwm area. This is the first board i've owned with a digital pwm and im not sure if its cool to run that area with no sink. I've got an hr-05 that im itching to throw on this board.

I really dont want to cut the stock one cause i dont want to deal with any crap if i have to rma the board. P5B-Ds have a nasty habit of dying for no reason at all and commando might not be any different.

The buzzing comment was sarcasm for those with that issue, i know how much it sucks to pay for something and it isnt working as you think it should.

    Very nice MrDeeds !

    Here's my results:

    3.84GHz

Currently on BIOS 707. vdroop gets pretty bad at high vcore at 1.65v it gives 1.54 under Orthos load.

Board maxes out at 505Mhz past that I get no boot regardless of FSB termination and NB voltage.
My D-tek Pro Core rad can't keep up with the C2D heat load so I just ordered a pa120.3*hopes it's in stock*,now if have to find a new case for it.

Tried to take the HP assembly off but the SB postion is glued on like mad.
I would almost have to take the bloody SB chip off the board to take it off.

So pushed the pins on the PWM area then got the NB pins out and got the NB sink portion up enough to use Arctic Cleaner Remover with a Q-tip and the AC Purifier on it after, applied AS5 and temps are pretty good so far 42c is the max it got to using the supplied optional PWM fan.

Thanks, you've got some pretty nice results yourself over there on water.

As far as max fsb i didnt try my board at all on air so i dont have a max that most people should expect but i was able to boot at 6x550 with all stock volts.

I totally forgot that the sb needs to come off to put on a nb cooler. If its on like the sb sink on my aw9d-max you'll need to heat it up to get it off the board.

Well I tried 702 but for some reason keep getting bsod. I went back to 601 and I was able to hit 530fsb so far. Also the vdroop is a little higher than my P5W, even while idle.

I am not going near a $300CAD motherboard with a 1500Watt static generator

Seriously tho.. I don't feel comfortable using a hair dryer near it. I tried by resting a very hot glass of water on it to heat it up but to no avail.

That's odd BIOS 601 was stable but not as stable as 702 is for me

    Hi all !

For better cooling the NB of the commando, put a 4cm fan on it ! i've done and temps are ok.
i think this board is better than the P5B but i use a 6800 at 3.8 ghz, run at 4 ghz but impossible to be stable. rrrrrrrrr
corsair 8500 2x512 now are at 594 mhz !!!!!! incredible....not very stable also but never arrived to this freq with another board (with 3.32 in the bios (2.4 in pc probe).....)

    bye

Finally got my board up and running

I am currently able to hit 550FSB with my E6300 (x6 multi - 1:1) so far.

Still testing ATM. The CPU and northbridge get incredibly hot.

... and this damn squeeling is doing my head in!!

and btw, stay away from it. i did a WINRAR memory bench mark, i only get 830kb/sec speeds now in single channel mode. cuz i can only run my ram in this config for now(hopefully), and the 702 bios would get me 1.1meg/sec

    AVOID!

    On the 801 Beta also

    Looking goo so far::
    Got it running at 517Mhz x 7 multi,that's 12MHz higher than 702 & 601 BIOS

All the chipset voltages can be set lower and it will make higher clocks on this BIOS, at stock NB & SB volts I got 505MHz out of it, no other BIOS was able to do that yet for me. It only needed extra voltage for the last MHz's above 505.

The bad:vdroop is still a 0.1v and yet no option present for 400MHZ mem ratio to be selected.

I am sorry to hear of your troubles TMX . Bump up you ram voltage a bit and make sure the last four memory sub-timing are at least near 10-10 -10 -11

I have no memory issues here apart from the fact I want even faster RAM
