This is the case with me also. I don't know if it's the 1066 strap that i've tested or clockgen, however.Originally Posted by HermS
A question is whether the added nb volts that Commando utilizies will help this.

is the stock chipset cooling good for ~400FSB, with the fan, of is an aftermarket chipset cooler needed?
if stock is good, how load is that fan?
if aftermarket is needed, are any components previously cooled by heatpipe left to over heat if you remove stock and add on a NB cooler?
Hey Joe, setFSB works perfect for me, give that a try maybe?Originally Posted by JoeBar

There you are with vDROOP mod.
I think vCORE is same as on P5B-series

No, under NB HS there is anful contact to NB.Originally Posted by Ironmon1
Then when we have NB voltage adjust via BIOS up to 2.025V and vontact is poor so..
Here is few pics:

Mine was slightly better but not much:-
Dani what value (ohms) do you use for that VDroop mod?

Dani, love your avatar
The stock NB and SB cooling should be OK if you do some lapping and put them back with some AS5 or Ceramique. I did that for my P5B-D, had the same poor contact, and now the heat transfer is much better.
set it to 50K, go into bios, and track voltage change.
you will see the voltage go up slowly... keep lowering resistance until voltage stops going up...
i never got an actual value for this mod but this is how i did it on my p5b and it works great now!
What sound cards is everyone using with this board? I'm planning on picking up a Commando when they are released in the US and want to get a nice X-Fi to use with it and my non-SLI 8800GTX.

I got my Commando today, replacing a P5B DLX. First impression : luxurious board with a lot of monitoring and voltage options, and 4 PCI slots ! Very nice replacement. It runs 3,7 Ghz just like the P5B. But it needs to be VDROOP modded and the power circuitry definitely needs heatsinks. It gets very, very hot when priming, can't touch it ! I need to do these things first before I'm gonna see if it gets any further than the P5B...
My 1st impressions
First : Tuniq Tower fits perfeclty ..nice
Here is a quick result with a retail E6400 cooled by air / Tuniq
That was just with 1.65 on NB Vcore
VDroop does not sees to be a problem with retail motherboard
v_offset = v_bios - v_idle = 1.625v - 1.585v
v_drop = v_idle - v_load = 1.60v - 1.575v
But seems there is problem, after put a 120 fan on the top of NB / mems I raise the NB VCore to 1.900v (maximum in bios is 2.025v) a now the motherboard does not anymore - in LCD does not pass "CPU INIT"
I alredy clear CMOS, even remove the batery and the still not bot (turns on and off) - anyone experience the same problem ??
For now I advise you all not to pass 1.75v on NB voltage ..
I have the same problem once in a while. Only way round it for me is to take a stick that will boot at low volts (I use 1 stick of HZ) boot to bios, (you will get that 'overclocking failed' message) turn off then put my Cellshocks back in and away I go. Pain in the arse, but what can you do?Originally Posted by Pedro Rocha

Where did you get that bios from ?
Can't find it from Asus site and Google isn't too generous either.
