2.1v memory capable of 500+ ?

Was looking for some good memory that could push as far beyond 500 as possible w/ 2.1v. Budget is $200.00.

Ended up buying 2 gigs of OCZ 8500 (533) w/ the Micron D9GMH chips.

CPU-Z merely reads the SPD of the RAM.

Just because the SPD states one set of timings or speed doesn't mean the RAM has to run at that; it's merely settings that are designed to get the RAM to boot up stably with 1.8V usually so you can go into the bios & properly set the timings/ratio, etc.

Also, getting DDR2-1100 speeds @ 2.1V is a long shot. A very long shot.

You want Micron D9GMH/GKX for those kind of speeds; look thru the big thread here for ideas:

Again though, i would not count on any RAM doing 550 MHz @ 2.1V.
500 MHz 5-5-5 is a more reasonable target if you get good binned Micron.

Still, if they were identical sticks they should be reading the same.

I'll probably see where I can get with new memory first, then analyze the new cap (which would probably be the memory again) and fix it with a new board.

BTW this memory caps at 280 at 2.1v. Said f-it and ran it up.

I'm been pooring over and over the choices. Tough decision. I'll come up with three top choices and maybe you guys can help me pick from those.

My Team Xtreem pair was different SPDs as well; i don't believe it's all that uncommon.

Once again, keep in mind SPD really means nothing from an overclocking point of view.

Default SPD for all Micron D9GKX [before being changed by the manufacturer like Corsair, OCZ, etc.] is DDR2-800 5-5-5 1.8V

Anything else is merely what the company selling the RAM has set it to, which is why SPD really doesn't mean much at all.

It's just there to get the system up & running, or for n00bs, to allow auto settings to be utilized.

This scenario is perfect for the G.Skill HK's. They will do 500+ easily with 2.1v.

1100 at 2.1 volts isnt a long shot.

you just have to be realistic.
you want 1100 at 2.1 then dont expect to be running cas 4-4-4 to do it.

I know my Mushkin 6400 does 1100 easy at less then 2.1 volts, when using cas 5-5-5 and thats plain old D9GMH.
its not hard, you just have to be realistic about your expectation if you want to work with that kinda limit.

Just curious because I am going to oc my firestix 8000 soon for the first time, are you guys running 1:1 or a divider? I'm assuming a divider unless you have chips that'll hitt 600+ fsb, but wanted to make sure. Because I keep seeing in the forums using a divider is teh suck.

New memory is fantastic. I have my system stable at 500.

I can't go above 500 just yet because the cpu is getting too hot. Gotta tackle about 10c off the temp and I'll keep working it up.
