Not to question anything anybody, but if you guys can do 3.6GHz with such low voltages (like near stock) then I'd imagine 3.8~4.0GHz shouldn't be too far-fetched? I'd imagine those frequencies should be achievable around 1.5V, can I see some Orthos screenshots?

How about WCG screeny stable for days along with 8-10 VM's...

Thank you. A question: Why are you settling @3.6GHz? Is your P5W not up to 420~430FSB? 3.8GHz (422FSB) should be well within reach under 1.4V?

That info came direct from Intel rep when he was @ our loacal Fry's a few weeks back.

I have a unique relationship with the local Fry's here. They are always willing to go to the "cage" and look for specific stepping for me. The only draw back is their price is not as low as online vendors. Even still, I was able to purchase all six 6400 "b"'s they had instock, three of which have been confirmed to hit 4ghz. The other's I'm still waiting on results.

Long ago I too had Fry's cherry pick CPU's for me. I even purchased an EE during a benching war (OC'd the hell out of it & returned it for credit after 3 days...).

That happened to me @ quakecon this year. In the Dell 3DMark06 contest people were buying stuff from Fry's to get top score and returning it. Poor little me had to compete with my own hardware .........Still won though

yea i gotta say, I'm liking this B batch a lot. They brought back a little excitement in conroe for me

they seems to behave a lot like the ES we've seen before, low vcore but not so good with temps. Another thing I noticed is Coretemp and asus probe arent that off now, like 5-7C difference, compared to 15C before with my other e6600. They are almost 1-2C difference with less than 1.38v.

As far as stable, it's not a miracle but still better. I think 3.8 prime is definitely doable but luck of the draw still play on how much vcore you will need. My particular chip isnt that great but still better than my previous A batch; 3.8 w/ 1.52v in bios. The IHS on this one is really crappy. I can tell because with the same vcore on both chip, my temps and delta is higher than my previous e6600. Could be a bad mount I dont know. But also TAT shows a difference of 3-7 between the two cores. My old one was just a difference of 2C. So I know it's not perfect. Overall I really recommend the B batch tho. It's the best so far.

I wish we had a fry's here in the east coast. Their prices are always great and it looks like fry's actually carries the latest hardware. Bestbuy and Compusa only get this stuff about 6 months or more after launch.

Newegg has a warehouse here in Jersey (30 minutes from home) but I highly doubt they'll let me go and pick my own CPU

    Oh sorry,
Leaving for vacation today...will get to Fry's in 2 weeks. But I bet they have them since they have them in Silicon Valley (they all get regional shipments at the same time of the same lot - that's what the guy at Fry's Outpost said when I bought my other chip 2 mo ago). Maybe they will be L630B's when I get back from Hawaii, lol

I was considering doing the same with my E6700 since I can get a E6600 on the cheap through the wife's EPP and probably have better luck with it; I'm passing up on Kentsfield at this time though.

Hmm, I got two L629B two weeks ago from Microcenter and so far it seems average. I got a 31A from fry's to test out and that did 3.4GHz on stock. So far one of these chips do 3.2GHz stock. Still haven't upped the voltage, got a mini typhoon from fry's for temporary use and it still hits 60C for load on stock. I got some nice water cooling parts sitting on my desk but still need to figure out how to set that up.

Did you get the chips online or from the b&m store?
