wow this actually worked for me
I was lazy and i just freehanded it while my motherboard was in the case
All i had was a lead pencil and a flashlight

    surprisingly it worked

    before
    bios set - 1.4 ,
    idle - 1.34
    load - 1.36

    after
    bios set - 1.4
    idle - 1.37
    load - 1.38

I now get the same results with just setting 1.356 as opposed to 1.4

nice work , thanks eva for the pic

Same. I did not bother removing the board from the case, used a flashlight and a steady hand and coloured in that bastard grey

Not many vcore settings actually vdroop at all now.

eg. 8x475 Set 1.525 bios AI Suite reports 1.504v Idle. Load = Dual 32M Systool 1.504v!

    1.50 bios = 1.48 windows = 1.48 load
    1.55 bios = 1.528 windows = 1.528 load

    This mod scores 10/10
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I didn't cover the resistor after I did the pencil mod. Will the pencil stay there for a long time?

it most likely wont, i had to redo my 7600gt pencil mod after like 6 months?
who cares though? just keep doing it when it runs out

    its so simple

I did vdroop but I cannot find any benefit out of it.

Beside it makes you feel better with lower vcore set in bios (which might allow people to increase vcore settings), it does not make any different in term of "REAL" vcore put on CPU.

In other words, it won't make CPU uses less voltage....

Please correct me if I am wrong.

It eliminates the voltage drop at load.

this mod is amazing! just took a pencil and did like 3-4 strokes...

    before mod
    in bios 1.3125
    1.28idle
    1.25load

    to

    after mod
    in bios 1.3125
    1.3idle
    1.31load

im testing for overclock now.. and testing for results!

Ok, so being adventerous pay off, notice the mod area of P5B-E Plus and P5B Deluxe is almost similar. So I just whack and took a HB pencil to shade for around 10 seconds, back and forth.

    Results Before
    Vcore Bios Set - 1.362
    Vcore Bio Detect - 1.312
    Vcore CPUZ Idle - 1.31 -1.34 (fluctuation)
    Vcore CPUZ Load - 1.27 -1.29 (fluctuation)

    Results After
    Vcore Bios Set - 1.3625
    Vcore Bios Detect - 1.352
    Vcore CPUZ Idle - 1.352
    Vcore CPUZ Load - 1.352

I am running E4300 at 3000Mhz. Due of the Vdrop i have to set my Vcore in bios at 1.3625 to get a 1.28 Vcore at LOAD
Now i only have to set 1.29 to get a 1.28 Vcore in load. Othors Stable for 9 hours.
Not Only does this mod helps in Vdrop, helps stablise my Vcore also. Thanks XS

this mod is probably the best mod ive ever done.. i went from max overclock 3.255ghz (7x465mhz FSB) to 3.4ghz (7x486mhz FSB) with everything the same in the bios.. with the more stable vcore, the processor is clocking ALOT BETTER! thats 3.4ghz @ LESS THEN STOCK VOLTAGE!!! now thats amazing!! almost 100% overclock (still testing, but soo far soo good)

Anybody know if this is the same mod for the Commando? The area around where the mod is looks exactly the same as the commando cept for one resistor.... Didnt think I need this but I might as well try...

Yes. I used a 2B pencil and coloured it in bascially

On 0804 bios I was getting a consistent 0.08v droop under load. I recently flashed to 0901 and I am now getting 0 droop on every vcore setting I have used thus far (not all of them tested).

eg 1.475 bios = 1.456 windows idle and under orthos load. 1.3125 bios = 1.288 windows idle and load.

I'm not 100% sure its to do with 0901 but it sure as hell is a big coincidence

I used an ordinary HB pencil and it worked fine with a few strokes.

2b-8b are best as they have higher purity of graphite(better conduction) but HB can work too with some pencil mods(not all) es[ecially those where you are only lowering hte resistance by a very small margin. use a DMM to check resistance before and after, 14-15kohms or so seems to be great for next to zero vdroop.

If i've understood right the p5b deluxe mods and the ones for p5b-e plus are the same, right?
I've been trying to do the pencil vdrop mod on my plus but it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone confirm that the mods are the same?

I can confirm Eva2000's picture works on the P5B Non-Deluxe/Non-E and should work on the P5B-E. The area you are supposed to pencil is the 4th lead from the bottom right. While on the P5B and P5B-E the remainder of the resisters are different the following section is exactally the same (however the position might be slightly different). The Resister you need to pencil is the fourth from the bottom right as illustrated in my picture. Just follow the trace and paint away.

    Results:

    Before:
    BIOS: 1.42
    Idle In Winblows: 1.37
    Load: 1.31
    ____________

    After:
    BIOS: 1.4
    Idle: 1.392
    Load: 1.398

Thankyou Eva2000 for your picture! Someone PM a Mod to sticky this

    Thanks.

That is the one i've been trying to pencil but nothing happens. The vdrop on this board is terrible. Really need to get is to work.

Should is just continue to pencil the same spot or is possible that the mod should be don't somewhere else on the p5b-e plus?

Well i used to get 1.5v when i put my CPU to 1.55v
And now after the mod, which i did w/ a regular HB, or No.2 Pencil, i shaded that thing for like a minute and now i get 1.548 in Bios. And i get 1.54v in windows

Best and easiest mod ive EVER done!

Works on all P5B XX boards including Commando. If the area looks the same it will apply the same.

People, nobody tried to measure a VCORE before and after MOD by a multimeter? Or everyone trust indications CPU-Z/Asus Probe/Speedfan/etc.

On my motherboard the real voltage is much less, than is exposed in BIOS:
    (all voltages in idle)
    BIOS: 1,425 CPU-Z: 1,38 Measured: 1,27
    BIOS: 1,7 CPU-Z: 1,64 Measured: 1,44

Your MM sucks. I trust bios more then when I trust where you're putting those probes

Yes that is the one I shaded on my P5B. The reason I highlighted the picture is because excluding that part the rest of the motherboard's transister positions are different, however the 4th lead from the vreg chip is the one that controls the vroop apparentally on all p5b boards since it worked very well on mine.
