ne F6e is not legit,,, its a leaked beta bios that gigabyte never wanted released.
why the hell do you think they have stopped releasing bios's to their distributors in Taiwan to test.
they never authorized these testers to share the bios's to begin with,
and never ask gigabyte for anything via that god damn stupid email thing.
it takes 3-4 days to get a reply and then they lie, cheat and bend you over and dont even attempt to answer your questions.

call into tech support and when the little punk tells you to use the website email system you tell him that you have tried that and your damn tired of sitting around waiting for days for people to reply, and that you want a tech on the phone right now to address your issue
and if he gives you any lip then demand to speak to a supervisor.

sounds pretty brutal but the 3 times i have called in with issues that could have been easily handled by the little punk on the phone he tried to tell me to use the web form.. needless to say me and the Tech manager had a nice long talk about customer service and the legal ramifications of simply telling everyone to "go to the website and submit a trouble ticket" to which your reply has little to nothing to do with solving your issue. and they dont even read the form you fill out prior ro answering you. they will ask you what bios you have or what hardware you have when the fvcking form you filled out just answered that question,. so there goes another 3 days waiting for a reply when all the little bastards had to do was read the friggin form.
so now your at a week ,, and still not one helpful answer to any of your questions.

just like with the IDE PIO mode. Gigabyte denied there ever was an issues, tried falsifying pictures and information to me and i took that to their regional support manager and one of their sales manager and pretty much explained what happens to companies here in the good ol usa when they try to fook over consumers like this.
and low and behold what happened 2 weeks later ? oh my gawd,, the F3 bios was released that fixed the friggin PIO mode and ,, oh yeah,, they didnt know a thing about it and denied there was an issue,, yeah uh huhm,, thats why you fixed it huh..

andways the moral of the story is gigabytes support is good for only 1 thing.. RMA nothing else,,, nothing...
just come here and we will help out as best we can but when many of us tell you to RMA it quick jacking around and just RMA it.

Yeah, they went in circles when I asked about the Smart Fan option in EZTune. In the end, they told me Smart Fan was replaced by QST...I asked them what that was for giggles at the end. Enjoy...

    Question - 385693
    Sent : 2006/8/16 19:38Question : Hello,

The button for Smart Fan in EZ Tune doesn't seem to function. I'm using the EZ Tune off the disc.

    Thanks!!

    Answer - 385693
    Answer : Hi

Smart Fan is not supported on this motherboard, if supported it'll be available under bios

    thank you

    Question - 387347
Sent : 2006/8/21 21:10Question : Oh, there's some settings in the bios. They will alter speed based on some determination, but there's no way to specify at what speed I'd like to run my fan at...at any given cpu/nb temp.

Also, the IT8712F has no problems changing speed when I have Speedfan utilize the "software controlled" option under advanced config.

So why put "SMART FAN - Make your system cooler and quieter" on the BOX OF MY DS3 if it's "not supported on this motherboard?"

    Thank you,

    Jod

    Answer - 387347
Answer : * The specification and pictures are subject to change without notice.
Any issue with the board other then the Smart Fan?

    Question - 387613
Sent : 2006/8/22 11:03Question : The board just came out. If specs change, why is Smart Fan plastered all over your website for the DS3? Who/how can I speak with the tech that does BIOS upgrades for this board? How do I get into a beta feedback program as I would like to help bring this feature to fruition.

Other than that one feature, the board has been become one of my all time favs.

    Thanks,

    Jod

    Answer - 387613
Answer : Where did you get the F4c bios from?
When using beta bios certain options may be removed, did you revert back to the older bios?

    Question - 387998
Sent : 2006/8/23 07:23Question : I got the F4C from another beta tester. The board originally shipped with F3. Smart Fan did not work with that one, so I tried F4 from site and F4C. Of course, neither helped.

The options in the bios to change fan speeds are there, but I need something in Windows so as to optimize airflow to noise ratio.

    Thanks,

    Jod

    Answer - 387998
Answer : the software may not work with an aftermarket fan, do you have the retail intel hsf to test with?

    Question - 388326
Sent : 2006/8/24 04:30Question : I have tried the retail fan as well. The Zalman 9500 currently on there has the "Intel sanctioned" 4 Pin PWM module tho. I have been using Speedfan to regulate temps. It's getting me by...

    Answer - 388326
Answer : under fan speed control do you have it set to AUTO?

    Question - 389207
Sent : 2006/8/26 10:24Question : I have tried all available options and Smart Fan does not function in Windows. The button is greyed out. If I set to disabled and edit Speedfan's config, I am able to control the speed. I just wanted to get Smart Fan working is all...

    Answer - 389207
    Answer : Hi

The smartFan feature ha been replace by the QST feature under bios
Therefore there are no options to enable it

their form of so called support totally enrages me,,, i love the board... but hate their support.

sorry for blowing up but customer service and technical support is huge issue with me.
i take care of my clients thru and thru. and dont make excuses i dont lie to my clients and i make damn sure my clients are happy at the end of the day.
why ? because maybe i can't give them the best price but the added value i give to their purchase far outways a few bucks difference in price. and they always come back. unless the dollar figures are an unpassable wall. then i can't do much about that.

the large hardware makers have horrible support with the exception of a few, and all it does is hurt them, but they dont view it that way.

    p.s.

look at the dates of those replies,,, i have worked email support before and it does NOT take 2-3 days to reply to emails. that is just retarded. unnecessary and rediculous!

Maybe when I flash F7 my X-Fi won't disappear? That would be nice for a change.

Richard, to work around the SYS_FAN being at 100%, have you tried the latest Speedfan? You should be able to override it into Software Controlled mode. And perhaps you can switch it back to SmartGuardian mode to knock some sense into it - it might just work until the next reboot!

I agree Gigabyte's customer service has gone downhill from 10 years back, allthough I thinks it's improved from 2 years back where it was taking over a week for each answer all in with backwards and forwards I was 3 weeks trying to sort a problem for a friend in the end I never got the right service and the board went in the bin and I vowed to never buy Gigabyte agian that was until the DS4, which I am happy with but I haven't had to contact them thank god.

does it make a difference if you run stock or overclock ?
and if overclock what FSB does it start to puke out the XFi ?
also are you locking the pci-e at 100mhz ? or higher ??

    My xfi works fine

My bet is the Creative drivers are messed up.

you have to uninstall them and then go through the registry by hand and remove all there entries.

Trust me that should fix it

Even at stock speeds. It works fine with the F5 bios. PCI-e is locked at 100mhz.

Sorry for not wanting to read 60 pages of replies, but what is the best/most stable bios for overclocking so far? I notice that f6 is out but some ppl like Lestat stick with the f4 bios...what is the consensus? I bought a DS3 with a f5e bios for my other e6600 which seemed ok for a while @3.6ghz but then would have reboot issues. Upgraded to f6 and am doing ok so far. Never tried f4. What do you guys think?

Hahaha. That's good to hear, I thought something was jacked with the hardware. I've also noticed some issues with returning to the computer and not being able to bring a screen back. I'd be great if this all fell under F6's mad rule.

Please read this tech support reply from Gigabyte and see if what he's saying is true:

"About the issue you mentioned in your earlier mail, sorry the last mail didn't describe clearly enough, please kindly refer to the recommendation below to verify the issue.

    1) The "USB Keyboard Support" need to be enabled under DOS, but if you use USB keyboard/mouse under Windows circumstance, you don't need to enable "USB Keyboard Support," you can use your USB devices directly. Please kindly make sure if you can use the USB keyboard/mouse under Windows circumstance after disable "USB Keyboard Support" option.

    2) The RAID array cannot be recognised when enabling "USB Keyboard Support" option is because of the size of the Shadow RAM in BIOS. Due to the size of the Shadow RAM is limited, when you enable "USB Keyboard Support," the size for RAID BIOS will be occupied by USB keyboard instead. Therefore you couldn't use RAID. Since we cannot change the size of the Shadow RAM, we suggest you may disable the "USB keyboard support" option under Windows circumstance."

See to me this is RUBBISH!...why?, because the beta F6e fixes the problems i mentioned, i can now enable USB Keyboard Support in bios + have my Plextor 716SA connected to the yellow Intel ports + setup a RAID 0 array. It works...i am able to boot from the RAID array + the Plextor drive is detected in bios and can be set in the boot order.

As i have tried to explain to these muppets...you *NEED* to enable USB Keyboard support in bios, because other wise you cannot fully use a USB keyboard, specifically being able to hit Ctrl+I and enter the Intel SATA RAID bios ROM to setup a RAID array and stripe size etc.

    (mad as hell) !!

I'm at work - so I can't test it yet. Anxious to hear how it works out....

Looks like they have new bioses for the other boards as well - Dq6, Ds4, etc....
