I don't mind giant spider like monsters as long as their AI is done right. Like the the striders in HL2, they where a blast to kill.

BTW. I know I must be alone here. But why the bloody giant spider thing? I swear i'm the only person who hates "monsters" in "army (for sake of better genre name)" games. Maybe this is why I love BF2 so much (bar bugs of course).
This is supposed to be futuristic like HL2. I like the alien idea as long as it's done right.

I think one nextgen card will be able to handle this quality. My Opteron and 4GB ram better not be a bottleneck.

They should remake BF2 on this engine.

well the "spider" is basically story line
it starts off you vs other guys aliens come and now its u vs other guys vs aliens
and they want to freeze the planet so they can live on it
i do agree with you though as bugs(even small ones) creep me out and aliens and monster are even worse(too scarey )
but robots are no prob, i get scared playing games but not at movies cause in games i see what i see, you know
but if you buy this game for nothing else buy it for being able to plow down that beautiful forest
if you guys have not seen any of the in game action u really really must check it out

    Glass half-full time...

Surely those are just highest quality screenshots, not actual gameplay as we can expect it. I can't believe that even on the first DX10 cards that we're gonna be able to run games at that level of detail in real-time at a decent framerate...

    Am I wrong?

Those GFX sure do look like something I've never seen in games untill now ...

I only hope the game is interesting enough to play it to the end. I played Far Cry only untill 50% I think, when those idiotic mutants came ... suddenly lost interest then :/

I'll eat my shorts when AMD/ATI can come out with something that can counter an C2DX8000 with QuadSLI 7950GX2 on a Intel 975X chipset board when official Forceware drivers come through.

Given how great FarCry looked when it came out almost 2 years ago, I don't doubt that actual gameplay will look as stunning as these screenshots.

Crysis is not an Army game, don't make that confusion. Its a game about Aliens crashing into the Earth and you are sent out to investigate/clean up. All the while North Korea is doing the same (and fighting against you).

The army portrayed will most likely be your enemy in the game most of the time. (if not all)
    I'm back....

THESE SCREENSHOTS ARE NOT OF THE DX10 GAME, IT IS DIRECTX 9 PEOPLE !!!!!

Btw, Crytek has mentioned that DX10 may not be a huge overhaul for Crysis but more of speed optimizations and enhanced effects.

Well, somebody go drag up Farcry promo screenshots and load up the game and take some ingame shots to compare. Post the result.

PCPowerPlay magazine issue #127 (July) says "we're shooting for a [US] Winter 2006 release"

There is no specific reference in the PCPP article to say if the screen shots have any post-shot enhancements. Also mentions they do not have to wait for Vista or DX10 as the game is DX9 built.

Here's one from the Gamespot review:
    click me

Far Cry might look like that with todays gen graphics cards, but it sure as hell didn't look like that on the graphics cards of the time - 9800XT, etc. I'm sure the same will apply with this - we'll probably have to wait a year or so before graphics cards are capable of that sort of detail at playable framerates.

Promo shots are almost always maximum res with full HDR+AA/AF, shadows, etc - if even the short-term gen machines with Conroe and Crossfire/SLI are capable of those screenshots in real time I'll buy a hat and then eat it.

Just my opinion (which may be wrong).

I also remember when top end systems of the time (2.5 GHz XP, 9800 Pro) couldn't handle the game maxed out. Things have changed though and tech has become more competitive. I think a single next gen graphics card should be able to handle it maxed with dual core.
